Positive induction stories please...

OP posts:

I had a positive induction, might sound a bit woo but I think a lot of it is being in the right head space. I knew it had the potential to be long, I knew that best laid plans might change so I was willing to be patient and flexible.
I went in 1pm Saturday, pessary in, waters broken, epidural, drip, had my son Monday morning 11am. No instruments, no episiotomy. I wouldn't be worried about another induction, I think you just need to know what your options are and be willing to evolve as the situation does.
Best of luck, when are you due?

WeAllLikeVindaloo · 29/04/2022 21:42

Pessary induction, 11am on Thursday baby born 8:21am Friday morning. 15mins of labour no interventions.
Was my 2nd baby.

Foreverbaffled · 29/04/2022 21:46

Two very easy, quick and straight forward inductions. I had an epidural prior to the drip though as is recommended in the NICE guidelines. Was brilliant. No pain but enough sensation to know when to push.

cinnamonbiscuit · 29/04/2022 21:51

I was induced at 1030am and had Dd at 820am next day. Contractions were a bit intense and it did end in forceps- I know some people see this as a bad thing but honestly that was the most calm bit and personally I didn’t find it bad at all as interventions go! DD was born healthy and we went home the next day. Did have an episiotomy but recovery was much less uncomfortable than I expected. Honestly if I was pushed towards an induction again I would be happy with that.

Terriblecreature · 29/04/2022 21:52

Had 2. Both good birth stories in my book. First one baby born (no intervention) 10 hours after 1st pessary. 5.5 hours after contractions started. Second time they used gels instead of pessary. Needed 3 of these then my waters went on their own. Baby born 4 hours after this. Again no intervention and with second DC I was out the hospital 10 hours after his birth!

GeorgiePorge · 29/04/2022 21:57

mine was fine. Had 24hr pessary which had some affect and was told I was in it for the long haul as they put in an 6hr pessary. 5 minutes later my waters broke.

I was taken to delivery (8pm) and baby was born the following afternoon. Fairly long 'active labour's but first half i just chilled and listened to music and played with the tens machine

Last bit was tough... but didn't require intervention and only mild tearing. Up and about within the hr and feeling good.

I had been really worried about needing an emcs so for me I think of it as a really positive experience- not least as I had a healthy baby at the end of it all.

Mine didn’t work technically, but it was positive. They couldn’t get the balloon catheter in and then the pessary I had a reaction to so it had to come out almost immediately. But with all the faffing I went in to spontaneous labour whilst waiting for consultant and had DD without an epidural in 6 hours, no damage.
It wasn’t the induction I had planned but it was a good outcome!

Raindancer411 · 29/04/2022 22:00

My second was an induction and positive. I was 2cm when I went in, waters broken at 4pm. Then moved onto the drip at 8, baby born at 9:51pm!!! All the midwives kept telling me how fast it was!!

Midwife wouldn't believe me I needed to push until my friend insisted they check me lol

2in2022 · 29/04/2022 22:02

Pessary inserted 6pm Wednesday at 3cm dilated, 8cm at midnight, 10cm & began pushing at 1.40am. Baby born 2.12am Thursday morning. No intervention & no pain relief. Good luck. 😊

hedgehogger1 · 29/04/2022 22:05

I had the drip, no epidural. Was intense but good :)

Mytoddlerisamazing · 29/04/2022 22:07

Gel thing at about 7am, contractions started at about 9 while I was in the shower. I went for a walk to the corner shop (could be coincidence but I would definitely advocate keeping as active as possible for as long as possible) and contractions got properly painful by about lunchtime. Iirc I was 7cm by 1pm. There was a frantic rush to get me out of the antenatal ward and into the labour suite, and the midwives did a sterling job of filling the portable pool as that's what I'd been banging on about wanting the whole time. Baby born in the pool at 3.47pm. I won't lie, it hurt like fuck (more than I'd expected) but I managed on gas and air and had no major interventions and most importantly baby came out safely👶

Good luck op 🙂

afinethingindeed · 29/04/2022 22:16

Pessary inserted at 2pm, contractions started that evening. Moved to labour ward at around 6am the next day (at 6cm dilated). Waters were broken at 9am and baby born at midday. So 22 hours from start to end. No interventions, no episiotomy etc. Gas and air only.
I wouldn't change a thing about it and actually hope my next labour is as good (if I'm lucky enough to have another baby!)

RedHerring24 · 30/04/2022 22:43

Pessaey placed at 1.30am.
Period like cramps at 6am which became back to back contractions at 7am. Waters broke 7.30am and baby was born before 9am.
So the fact the whole experience was less than 2 hours was a bonus.
I only has gas and air as there wasnt time for anything else.
Did have an episiotomy though.
The birth was fine but all of the problems happened to me in recovery but thats a different story.

20viona · 01/05/2022 14:13

Induced at 37+4.
I was 1cm with a difficult posterior cervix when they put the first pessary in. 6 hours later and no developments I had another pessary inserted. Used this time to bounce loads on the ball and walk laps of the hospital grounds. Felt very slight cramps at this stage not painful.
After 6 hours they were able to break my waters, I was 3cm at this point.
All hell broke loose and baby was born 2.5 hours later. As soon as I stood up after my waters broke the pains were incredible she must have just needed that to happen to come down. No time for anything except gas and air.
All in all a quick positive induction. I needed an episiotomy and she was 5lb 3oz

dippyeggsandsoldiers · 01/05/2022 14:18

1st induction- pessary went in for 24 hours, water was broken after 24 hours. Drip went in, had my first contraction- 4 hours later baby was born.

2nd- pessary went in at 8pm, contractions started at 10pm, water broke at 1am, baby born at 2am, I was home by 1pm x

Etinoxaurus · 01/05/2022 14:23

3x 🤦🏻‍♀️
identical timelines and actions.
Pessary first thing. Intense contractions but slow dilation, waters broken then they flew out- 2 pushes.
Not fun but very manageable.

jazzyoldjim · 01/05/2022 21:38

My second was very positive induction - because I was firm with regards to what I wanted and I was listened to. Cooks balloon at 41 weeks, took 1h to drop out. Waters popped, then 2h later epidural and hormone drip on minimum dose, baby born about half an hour later, needed forceps but I did expect it as I did with first and second was a bigger baby in a small lady. Still feel very positive about the whole experience.

Musomama1 · 08/10/2022 21:18

Had a positive induction. Exactly 40 weeks, baby had to come on time due to GD.

Water's broken via balloon which took 24 hours. Felt so weird to have them broken. Waited 2 hours but nothing started so had an epidural put in plus the hormone drip.

Re epidural, I could still feel the strong contractions, I was not numb at all but it must have dialled down the 'pain' (it felt like 'good' pain / strong surges). I also couldn't pump it up too much as I had a weird reaction of shaking. Still managed to practice breathing and visualisation. It all felt manageable and controlled. I also used gas and air, which was fun!

I dilated to 9.5cm after around 7 or 8 hours which I put down to about one hundred cups of raspberry tea! My cervix was soft.

Pushed my boy out after 1 1/2 hours plus a helpful little cut!

I'd do it again that way in a heartbeat, much better for me than an elective c section, but we are all different.
