Lavender air wick mist ?!

Hi all,

My plan currently is gas and air and birthing pool, no current plan for epidural (health complications to do with myself). I am trying to 'prepare' myself as much as I can with essential oils and diffusers that will likely calm me down. I have these around the house and they tend to work. I am thinking of buying this for the hospital during birth. Lavender is supposed to be calming.

Do you think this will be too much in the room and overpower a summer delivery room? May annoy others? Would it work?

Would appreciate any feedback Flowers

I wouldn't be breathing in artificial chemicals nor expect others to do so. It can be bad for asthmatics and isn't great for anyone tbh, especially young lungs.

Lavender essential oils dropped in a cup of hot water or onto a folded tissue can give off a lovely calming smell or neals yard to roll ons that you roll onto your wrists and give off a lovely smell.

@WarriorNewAgain thanks I did wonder that also. I have found a lavender diffuser instead that may work that I can have to the side of me, I'm hoping that may not be as overpowering? The room I know will be so hot especially in august.

Preparing for Labour can be difficult as you have no idea what will happen - I'm sure you'll have a normal birth but be prepared for the fact that that can be taken out of your hands, in which case you won't be able to have much of anything near you, bar your partner or birthing partner.

Labour can also do odd things to senses and you may find you dislike the smell!

If I'm honest I'd try a neals yard roll on, easier to pack away, carry with you if you have to go for a walk around the block / park after being induced. or just a couple of lavender drops on a pillow or tissue.

We dont have any artificial smells in our house so I certainly wouldn’t have them in labour or around a newborn!

could you not use a pure essential oil and a mister?

good luck!!

Honestly, air freshener isn't going to make a difference to childbirth one way or another.

And agree with PP that it's potentially a bit antisocial.
