Has anyone been induced at 37w for first and second babies?

If so, what happened each time?
My first (and only) birth resulted in an instrumental delivery although I dilated speedily (10cm in around 8 hours). Hoping to have another but it will be another 37w induction so hoping it will go more smoothly this time 😬
The only ‘second induction’ stories I can find relate to overdue babies, not being induced early.
Thanks Smile

Why do you need to be induced early I suppose is the question?

I had an induction with my first and because ot failed/resulted in EMCS I wad advised not to have an induction with my second. I needed to have him early due to pre-eclampsia, so needed a csection again.

Sorry, just re-read your thread. When I fell pregnant with my second, I had meetings with the consultant to discuss my eldest birth and plan youngest delivery. If there is a medical issue that requires early delivery they will discuss whether or not inducing you is a good idea before hand I'd expect.

Thanks for the response! I have a pre existing condition where induction at 37 weeks is standard, maybe I could push it to 38 if it was going swimmingly well.

I've been induced at 37 weeks twice. Both times for pre-eclampsia.

First birth nothing much happened until the drip. 11.5 hours of that (1cm to 10cm) and I had a regular vaginal birth.

Second birth, again nothing happened until the drip. ~16 hours of that over 18 hours resulted in an emergency C-section for failure to progress (2cm to 5cm). Turned out baby wasn't descending due to being back to back with a deflexed head (aka stuck). Just one of those unlucky things. If baby's position had been better, there was no reason to think the induction wouldn't have worked.

Sorry my story might not be what you were hoping to hear, but it was honestly fine. Certainly won't deter me from trying for an induction (since I'll probably get pre-eclampsia again) if I have a third. Best of luck!

Honestly @Dyra that was what I was hoping to hear, just a true account of what may happen! I’m not hell-bent on vaginal birth at all, my top priority is just a calm(ish) experience with minimal pain. Thanks for posting

Hello, I was induced for both my first and second babies, at 38ish weeks. First wasn't great, was forceps, bad tear and blood loss. Second was great! Pretty quick, just gas and air, first degree tear. Both of them I needed the pessary then waters broken and then drip, so the difference was in how my body progressed rather than the induction process.

Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks @Aroundthelight

Can I bother you for a bit more detail? Did you have an epidural with the first one? How was pushing for each one?

Yes with the first one I had an epidural, could feel myself pushing but couldn't feel contractions. Ended up in theatre as baby wasn't descending enough and was distressed. There he came out with forceps.

For the second the pushing stage was about half an hour I think, was all fine, painful but bearable and I was worrying about tearing again!

With both the induction was for pre eclampsia, but I was much more ill for the first. I think that impacted why the second birth was so much smoother. Equally I think my body did know what to do having done it before - I didn't believe this when the midwives said it during pregnancy. My first birth had been so problematic and I had been so full of various medicines that I thought my body wouldn't have learnt anything from it and it would be like doing it first time again. But in my case it seemed to be true that it knew what it was doing.

Hope that's of some help and that things are smoother for you second time around too!

I was induced with my first at 38w due to contractions but no progress. Had balloon, ARM, then drip. Had epidural when drip started and glad I did as it took 18h to get to full dilation. 45 mins of pushing, couldn't feel anything till he was crowning then felt some pressure. Needed some stitches and could feel them doing that but no pain, then shortly after I could walk to toilet.

Thanks ladies! Seems a mixed bag. I’ll go in with an open mind and see what happens.
