Second c section incision / scar

Pyri · 13/04/2022 21:20

Hi,

Ill be having my second c section fairly soon and the midwife said the consultant will use the incision from my first c section which was about 2 years ago.

The first scar is a little bit raised in places and she said it will be likely cut out to neaten the whole thing up.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had 2 sections and could share what the process was, and if your scar looks better or worse than before?

Thanks

I actually loved my elcs. After being dead set on a vbac! He wasn't shifting.

Yes lovely and neat, only issue is that I didn't loose as much weight second time so have the slight pouch above...!

MamaWeasel · 13/04/2022 21:25

As far as I know they cut out the first scar and sew using non-scar tissue from either side. I can't honestly say I ever compared the scars in my mind. All shall be well xxx

I have had 2, after my first CS I had a bumpy scar raised in some places, and yes they did tidy it up during my ELCS and it’s a lot neater, you can barely see or feel it Smile it was a little stingier whilst healing so I wonder if that was because of the extra tidying up. The CS itself was pretty much the same as the first one.

My original scar had to be re-opened due to infection. Second time a sort of panel of old skin was removed and stitched up. So much neater even though I get odd twinges now and then.

custardbear · 13/04/2022 21:29

It's fine, I've had 3 surgeries in that area and had loads of scar tissue so they remove it and see you back up.
Unfortunately they didn't take up the offer of taking few kg of fat at the same time 😒

SkyLarkDescending · 13/04/2022 21:31

Yes second one is much neater, you can barely see/feel it - the consultant asked if I was planning any further children before sewing me up and said 'I'll do a neat job then' Grin

My 2 c-sections were so long ago I can't really remember. All I know is I have one slightly visible scar and it's very neat and faded now although still itches like mad randomly and the whole area is pretty numb.

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 13/04/2022 21:36

I had 3 C sections, all same scar, was quite bumpy after the first but much better after 2nd and 3rd.

Pyri · 13/04/2022 21:37

This is all really great to know, thanks

My first was an EMCS and second will be ELCS so hoping it might heal a bit neater!

Yes that was the same for mine @Pyri
I also slightly tore the first scar while it was healing when lifting DC1.

Very pleased with it now. Only a small area of numb skin around it.

Hope it goes well for you!

My first one turned in to a keloid scar as it healed (where it's raised and red) but my second one healed much better and you can hardly see it now. I used silicone scar sheets the second time.

Sarah13xx · 13/04/2022 22:49

@LimeSegment I think that’s what mine is like! Would 8 months later be too late to start using these sheets?

fruitpastille · 13/04/2022 23:06

Same here, my first was a bit bumpy. 2nd and 3rd much neater and less visible. My theory is that you get a more experienced surgeon for 2nd/3rd sections because the procedure is more complicated so they are better at doing it.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 13/04/2022 23:06

My first was hip to hip (I was fully dilated and he was wedged). The left hand side was jagged and stood out. When my second was born (also an emcs), she cut from the left to the centre so I now have a perfect thin line which represents the birth of both my babies.

WarriorN · 14/04/2022 11:41

I generally healed loads better with elcs; I think simply being calm and the atmosphere was lovely, I wasn't so exhausted afterwards and could do the whole "walk tall heal tall" thing earlier.

I brew babies who go past 42 weeks.

WarriorN · 14/04/2022 11:41

But they won't let geriatric mums go the distance - with good reason; my first was in distress hence emcs.

Magpiecomplex · 14/04/2022 11:45

They didn't remove my old scar tissue - I have a double line in places. That said, it's healed nicely and is barely visible these days.

Chrysanthemum5 · 14/04/2022 11:51

I had an emergency first time round and the scar had lots of keloid lumps and there were internal adhesions which caused pain. Second time round was an elective and the surgeon removed the old scar and gave me a very near scar which healed beautifully he also had time to remove all the adhesions

Brunonononooo · 14/04/2022 11:53

I have had two ELCS and the scar looks the same after the second as it did after the first. Really neat and no bumps at all. I am very impressed!

LimeSegment · 14/04/2022 13:01

@Sarah13xx the packet says the sooner the better, but no harm in trying, it's painless and no hassle really.

Pyri · 14/04/2022 20:55

This is basically mine now, a bit lumpy, hoping for a nice smooth one like this then!

I wonder if they slightly rush the incision with an EMCS and that’s why they’re sometimes not as neat?
