I’m in induction waiting hell!

My induction was due Tuesday and hasn’t even started yet. I’m in a queue. I’ve been told it’s looking unlikely today. I can see another thread which sounds similar from last week. So does this just happen!? Is this just how it works?! Why oh why did no one warn me!!!

I kept getting my induction bumped as no beds then labour started spontaneously and took 3 days to progress. Basically a massive staffing crisis in Maternity, it’s a scandal.

Is this recently?! It is a total scandal isn’t it, I was so unprepared! I‘m 36 weeks (induction because I’m having MCDA twins) so god knows if I’d even go into labour naturally.

I feel for you, it's horrible waiting, you'd rather just be at home waiting around. I had a two day wait for my induction last week, which felt like eternity. Lovely staff doing their best but there just seemed to be a baby boom in the hospital at the time! You will get there eventually. Try to keep moving around and keep yourself entertained and as sane as possible. It will all be worth it in the end x

Honestly I know you're not going to believe me when I say this... but just enjoy the time there. You're baby is safe and sound being monitored, you're able to lay back and relax, I watched a whole series of Love Island waiting for mine LOL. I made a couple of friends next to me too.
I was induced with both mine, first I waited sooooo long and even when induced it took 4 days! I was so so impatient. Second I didn't wait as long but enjoyed my time there relaxing (obviously missed my daughter but she came to visit!).
I found my birth was so much smoother with second as I just relaxed.
Your baby will be with you within the next week, how exciting is that!!!!
I wish you all the best xx

I waited five days for mine and was so stressed because I missed my first born so much! In the end they let me go home (I was 40+8 by then) and said I could come back the next day. I saw my toddler and immediately went into labour! (The oxytocin is real!)

The news has mentioned nhs staff being off work due to Covid so I have been expecting similar . Even pre Covid with our last DC they induced me when had no staff on hand to then offer pain relief or a labour room so hopefully it’s better to be in a queue until they have capacity . I do think it’s a widespread issue and midwives are overstretched and wish there was an answer . My induction is meant to be next week and I do hope yours goes well OP

Yep, I'm in a Facebook group for April babies that started on mumsnet. 700 women in this group and the general theme is days and days of induction and waiting. Even if you get the pessary/ balloon to work by the time anyone is available to get to them to break waters and progress to labour they have usually stopped dilating / progressing and they have to start the whole process again.

I've opted for c section for various medical reasons but if I hadn't I think I'd wait it out at home to try and get things going naturally

Go home and go back in x

Catipepo · 09/04/2022 05:02

Ditto. They were insistent I didn't go over 41 weeks due to concerns about my BP. Didn't get first stage of induction (balloon) until 41+1, it fell out after an hour. The next stage of breaking my waters didn't happen until I was 41+4 as they were so busy/understaffed. Ended up giving birth at 41+5.
Agree with PP, if they're making you stay in then discharge yourself home each evening, that's what I did, and come back in the morning. A sleep at home is far better than on a maternity ward, especially if you're soon to go into labour. You want to be well rested.
Best of luck.

Tell them you are going home & will they ring you when they have a definite time for your induction, or tell them you have decided you want a C section. A couple of nights in your own bed will do you good & hopefully relax you so you go in to labour naturally.
