VBAC 15 months after previous birth?

Hi 👋🏽
I am currently 10 weeks pregnant with my second baby. I had my daughter only 8 months ago (crazy, I know!) via emergency c section after a failed induction due to no progress.

She will be 15 months old when baby arrives, and the thought of recovering from a c section whilst caring for a newborn and toddler is horrendous. My recovery wasn't easy last time, and everything was a struggle.

I asked about VBAC at my booking appt, which the midwife seemed positive would be possible, however everything I've read suggests a monitor 18 months is needed between births before they will even entertain the idea.

Has anyone had a similar experience and been able to (or not) attempt a VBAC?

I'd love to have a natural birth as possible, but don't want to put myself or baby at risk.
Thank you x

If you can, I'd go for another c section. As there is such a short time between pregnancies, I think doctors would also advise it.

There was 18 months between my two DDs, and I opted for another c section. I felt that planning when I would have the baby was less stressful. Also, the odds of success aren't the best for VBACS.

I had 13 months between my c sections. The planned second one had a really speedy recovery, much easier than the emergency first one!

The consultant I saw really went on about contraception and not getting pregnant again too soon after C-section duecto the risk of uterine rupture so if it did happen I would not choose a VBAC.

It's one if those things where the risk might be small but the consequences serious so I'd do whatever I could to reduce risks.

That said I have no qualms about 'missing out' on a vaginal delivery, I know it's important to some people.

I went for a vbac 15 months between (planned pregnancy) I did so much research and it is fact that vaginal is safer than multiple caesarean after only 1 I would urge you to join the vbac uk support group on fb it has been valuable for me . Sadly I didn't get my vbac but got to pushing and things went wrong but I would 1000% be going for a vba2c next time in a couple years. I have hated both my caesareans and would never recommend one x

Yes I had a vbac at almost 15 months between the two and age 41. I too wanted to avoid another section (though my first section was ok) as my little one was barely walking and needed a lot of help.

It went fine but I swapped a scar for pelvic floor issues, a tear and ongoing but minor pelvic floor weakness a year later.

There’s no right answer. I’m glad I got my VB but have to “own” the choose in accepting pelvic floor issues (though of course can happen with c section but less likely). I’d do it again I think. Good luck

Hey. I'm in the same boat as you. I haven't seen the midwife or consultant yet but I'm so scared they'll say no to vbac. But they can't really force you to have a ECS can they ?
