Induction started but no space in delivery

I came in on Sunday morning due to reduced movements and potential fluid leak. They didn’t think it was fluid. This was 10 am. They checked and things seemed ok but was offered an induction due to repeated reduced movements. Started straight away and had the pessary with plan to break my waters at 12 pm today and head to delivery suite for birth. Baby still had reduced movements but trace is ok and moves a bit when on the monitor but very much reduced otherwise. Sat waiting all day to go to delivery 2 cm dilated but no room in the inn. They are unable to give me any idea of when I might go down. Anxiety is starting to increase with how busy it is and not getting space in delivery. Anyone got any experience or advice I am at a loss as to what to do now. Not sure there is anything I can do but wait? Really worried about how my baby is doing.

I feel for you as I felt very similar and could find no privacy when I was induced. But yours sounds much more promising as only 2cm still so by the time you need a room there’s every chance you’ll have one, I would raise your concerns but then focus on keeping very calm and distracted with other things to help your labour. I really hope it goes extremely well and sure it will.

(Is it your first baby? With me it was my 2nd so I just kept calm but it was still very unsettling. I hope you have a midwife checking on you as do remember how busy it can get)

It’s my first baby so anxiety is ramping up the longer I am waiting. Feels like it’s all going the opposite of what my classes have taught me. It’s very busy not calm and everything feels like it has stalled. Hoping things move soon. X

The thing is those in active labour will understandably take priority so you're probably near the back of the queue.
Have you been moved yet?

Oh it's so rough when it happens. Sad As PP says, it's also triage related. So long as you're not in labour, your waters are intact, and you and baby are well, pretty much everyone else goes ahead of you. It happened to me with DC2 a few weeks ago. Started induction midday Monday. Should have been checked Monday late afternoon, but it was delayed until midday Tuesday, just in case they accidentally broke my waters. I was 2cm, so ready to go, but no space on delivery suite. It wasn't until Friday morning there was space for me.

I hope you won't be waiting too long, or that you've already been taken down.

If you're still waiting, make your own oasis of calm. Wear headphones, close your curtains, and watch something that makes you happy. Get some tasty treats bought to you. Have a cry if you you need to. You won't be waiting forever. Sending love OP.

I waited 5 days in similar circumstances so i can really empathise x

I had this with dd2. They were absolutely insistent I HAD to be induced at 38 weeks latest, so I dutifully turned up on Saturday morning where u was advised I was 4th in line for delivery.
By Monday am I had been upto 1st in line and back down to 3rd. By Monday pm I lost my shit with them, pointed out the ridiculousness of them putting a 38 week limit on and then leaving me for days, then cried at everyone and miraculously 2 hours later there was a space. Coincidence....possibly.

CornishGem1975 · 29/03/2022 23:25

Pretty much my experience @Drywhitefruitycidergin

Mine was 5 days. I'd had enough. Cried, told the head of midwifery I was discharging myself and BOOM suddenly I was on Labour ward having my waters broken.

Looseleaf · 31/03/2022 16:04

Hotcrossbunsinbed how are things and I really hope you’ve been looked after and ok.
I think Covid cases amongst nhs staff can’t be helping as absences seem on an increase and am quite apprehensive for my induction too

This has been going on for YEARS! I've had 9 children and been induced with 7 of them. It's been the same with every induction I've had - except for one...in the Isle of Man - best experience BY FAR. Last baby was nov 2020 and same again. With my 4th I was taken in as urgent as I had lost waters (not broken - placenta failure) at 37 weeks. Sat there for 2 days only 5 minutes walking from my home. Day 3 I told them I'd discharge myself and miraculously I was taken down for waters breaking 2 hrs later. That was 15.5yrs ago!! They tried to send me home nov 2020...I was having none of it & was found a bed a few hours later. I'm not surprised by the recent report into the maternity services at all.

Similar to @Drywhitefruitycidergin was told they wouldn't let me go over 41weeks due to cardiac issue with baby. Brought in at 40+5 and given balloon induction which popped out in an hour as was already 3/4cm. Was then told no room to take me to delivery suite to pop my waters, I'd have to wait 4 days! They said i could go home but I'd have to come in for daily monitoring (I don't drive so taxis would have been expensive) I was also missing my 3yo. Basically had a breakdown and cried a lot... magically 2h later there was a bed.

Bushkin · 07/04/2022 22:05

Same happened to me, eventually got my husband to tell them I was going to discharge myself and miraculously they found room
