Covid + within 90 days of planned birth

Hi all,

Firstly apologies if I'm totally repeating something that has already been asked a million times!

I'm 26 weeks with twins, due to give birth via c section around 36 weeks, which is about 70 days (not that I'm counting)

Tested positive yesterday! Managed to avoid it ALL this time and get it whilst I'm pregnant.

I know I will be due a PCR prior to CS, I know that there is a possibility I will show as positive. I suppose my question is what will happen now if I still show positive within 90 days? Will they take into account I have had covid within 90 days? Will it change how I want the CS to go???

Thanks very much in advance for any guidance Smile

It's very very unlikely that you will still show positive by then. Most people don't.

Good luck with your babies! How exciting for you! You shouldn't show positive by then 😊

Thanks so much all. I think I just get into the habit of over reading all the info available - some articles say you could still test positive via a pcr up to 90 days after initial infection and started overthinking!

Thanks again Smile

I’m not in your situation as that part of my life has long passed Grin but I am awaiting surgery under general anaesthetic. I had Covid last month and the current rules are that I have to wait 7 weeks after the 10 day isolation to have the GA and they have waived the pre-op Covid swab. This is because of the 90 day PCR situation. I do have to self isolate for a few days before the op.

So this may well be similar for you. Make sure that your notes have your Covid dates in them and that your midwife knows the situation. They will be well versed in this type of situation as many women will have given birth while being actively Covid positive. The chances of you still showing positive on a pcr after 90 days is quite small. Congratulations and best wishes for the next few weeks Flowers

Was your positive test on a PCR?

If so, it should qualify you after 10 days have passed for a recovery certificate, which should mean you don't have to LFT during that time.

Check with your MW that it will indeed be taken that way for you (policies can vary between trusts/regions, but I think that applies everywhere)

Yeah PCR positive following LFT positive. X

I just gave birth fully covid positive (I was totally fine) and not one single person batted an eyelid, it was barely mentioned. I'm not sure if there are different protocols for a C-section but I doubt it! Good luck!!

HalloHello · 15/04/2022 20:44

They won't cancel a csection for covid +. They have to get the babies out. I didn't even get a covid swab when I went for mine!

Hey I had covid at 39 weeks pregnant and was out of isolation by a day when I went into labour. I don’t know if the rules are different now as this was October but because I’d just had it they didn’t test me at all. I was just treated as negative. Don’t panic! Good luck with your section 😊

Thanks so much all.

Thankfully I'll be well past covid by the time my CS comes around Smile

6 weeks to go (hopefully) hope you're all well x
