Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for ways to get more support after a c section. I had my first in summer 2020 when it was past peak covid but partners weren't allowed to stay very long. I had a long induction followed by emcs, struggled feeding due to undiagnosed tongue tie, couldn't sleep on the post natal ward and generally got myself into a bit of a state and developed postpuerpal psychosis
although none of the midwives thought to inform me of this diagnosis, I just found it in my notes and thought oh that's why I was hallucinating and crying uncontrollably! I'm now pg again but with twins this time so double the amount to do post birth, will have elcs so won't be hugely mobile, might be on a drip again making nappy changes etc difficult, probably still no private rooms due to covid (?), possibly a longer stay as they'll be earlier, basically I'm not looking forward to it although could be fine of course.
Has anyone used a post natal doula and can they come to hospital? Or managed to get private post natal care on insurance? I'm insured for the c section with vitality due to it being multiples but only up to a limit approx 1/3 of the actual cost so I'll be going nhs. Not sure if they'd cover postnatal only. I just remember feeling quite abandoned due to how overstretched the midwives are and would prefer not to feel like that again with two to care for. Happy to spend some money within reason.
