Second time induction experiences please!

I was induced with my first child, and will soon be induced again with my second. I had the pessary, ARM 24h later and then was fully dilated and pushing within a couple of hours.

Can anyone share their experiences of being induced a second time compared to the first please? I've seen a lot about second births generally being faster but no idea if this is true for induction too!

Hello! I had an induction with both my first and second - each time had pessary, then waters broken, then drip. Both times labour didn't get going until I had the drip, so second induction didn't start labour any more easily or quickly. However second time around the actual active labour part was much faster. And I also found the pain much more manageable. Hope of some help and good luck!

@feelslikeadream I’m in exactly the same boat! Due to be induced with a pessary for my second this afternoon; first baby was also induced the same way and was actually a fairly straightforward birth so hoping for the same again!

I was induced with my 3rd and 4th.
3rd on due date- took 3 lots of gel before anything started, then ARM, then pushing almost immediately. But to get to the pushing stage took 24hours.

4th induced 1 week early - contractions started after 30mins of the first gel. They broke waters around 6 hours later and then laboured away for a few hours before pushing.
I found overall the second induction felt much easier as I knew contractions had started earlier and pushing was quicker...

Thanks @Aroundthelight glad to hear second time was faster and less painful, exactly what I'm hoping for!

Ahh @elleton how exciting! Best of luck to you and congrats in advance!! ❤️

Thankyou @Happymama24 glad to hear your second one was easier too! I'm hoping that I don't have that initial 24h wait bit this time and that it picks up fairly quickly!

I was induced twice using the balloon method. First time the broke my waters and gave me the hormone drip at the same time. Labour was 4 and a half hours from breaking waters.

Second time it was agreed that we’d see how I got on after breaking waters but before giving the drip - labour was 6 hours.

I discussed it with my consultant - she said my first labour was unusually quick and it was likely second world get quicker and that was why we ageeed what we did - so do discuss any concerns with your midwife/consultant.

My second induction was great. They give you a lot more choice the second time round so I had an epidural before they broke my waters and I slept through most of it! It was quicker than the first too.

Thanks @Fleur405 I didn't have the drip right until the very end stage of pushing because I got so tired (back to back baby). But they've said the same to me too with how fast I progressed, they're expecting it again but I'm just wondering whether the pessary stage might be faster this time? I know it's not something I can control at all but would rather have an idea I guess!

@Dumbledoressister ah that's fabulous! The epidural is fab isn't it 😂 I'd quite like to actually try without the epidural this time round, I panicked and didn't even have G&A set up for when I went 2-10 so automatically went straight for epidural. Not that I'd turn it down if I felt the same again 😂 but the worst part was transitioning so I'm hoping to use some hypnobirthing and attempt to breathe through that stage maybe!

Induced both times as 10 days overdue. Second time the pessary worked so well they removed it and it was a bit more manageable as contractions not so intense. Start to baby in 9 hours and home that night.

@feelslikeadream so when I went in to be induced I was really unsure and thought I'd like to do it all without an epidural. Then when they offered it I literally didn't even hesitate and basically bit their hand off for it. And it was soooo chilled. A midwife even popped in for something and was like whooaaaa this room is crazily relaxed. So dont rule it out!
