Natural delivery after previous c-section

My first baby was breech & delivered by c-section.
I am now scared because this baby is head down ready to come lying low in pelvis. Has anyone experience of giving birth naturally after a c-section. The regisra at the hospital said there was a small possibility of scar rupture! Help

Not the expert, but I think that scar rupture is less than 1% chance. There are lots on mners that have had VBACs I'm they'll be along soon. Good luck to you!

lulumama and kbear are our fountains of knowledge on this one. Good luck.
I was aiming for a vbac, but in the end had another section. (Due to complications during labour)

Hi Dingli

and congrats on the second pregnancy!

if you do a search on here for VBAC and my name, lulumama, or VBAC and Klaw, then you will find plenty of information

the risk of scar rupture is under 1 % and there are things you cna do to maximise your chances of a vaginal birth

i;ve had a VB after a c.s and it was incredibly straightforward

when are you due?

Gingerbear · 03/01/2008 19:19

oops, klaw, not kbear - sorry!

I have had 2 VBACS and with my second one my scar did nearly rupture. You need to think carefully about what you want to do as if you have another section you may not be allowed a VBA2CS.

DaisyMoo · 03/01/2008 22:10

Apologies for hijacking, but can I just ask NAB how they knew your scar was nearly rupturing? Hope everything was OK for you in the end.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 04/01/2008 12:47

I was being mionitored and the baby's heartbeat wasn't great and they could just tell I guess. The room filled with Doctors and they gave me a tablet to take but I pushed him out in 7 minutes so they were able to resusitate him quickly.

The old-fashioned vertical CS scars were in danger of rupturing, but the smaller, bikini-style ones nowadays are much much less likely.
Call your midwife if you've any doubt or worries and ask her what she's experienced with other women.

hi dingli,

I'm in exactly the same position as you...

Over the past week or so, I've been experiencing period like cramps that come and go and the pain seems to be strongest where my section scar is...I mentioned it to my dr this week at my last check and he said it was only a concern if the pain was constant around there and if it was, I would need to be seen by someone straight away....Of course now I am paranoid everytime I feel the slightest twinge

As all of the others have said, the chances of our scar ruptering are minimal......

Good luck with the labour I'm sure it will work out just fine....

VictorianSqualor · 04/01/2008 20:00

The risk of scar rupture after one previous CS is approx 0.5% and the risk of having a scar rupture that results in serious complications is obviously much smaller.

It really is down to you, but many, many babies are born by VBAC without any difference to a normal vaginal birth.

As NAB said it is harder to get support from the hospital for a VBA2C so think carefully about this.

What have they said at the hospital except for the small risk of rupture? Iftheyare very supportive of your VBAC then it's likely to go better anyway, as they are probably more experiences in it, some hospitals like to use scare tactics and make you think you're going to explode to make it easy for them to plan your section!

If you wish to go ahead with your VBAC, I would suggest you do not agree to induction (most hospitals wouldn't suggest it anyway) as this can increase the rupture risk significantly.

If you check out this thread it's full of useful info and VBACers that are either wanting to have a VBAC or have had one.

Good Luck.

Thanks everyone, hospital aid they would prefer me to try naturally. I have only had the 1 c-section & it was 4 yrs ago.
Just waiting now, wish it would come soon. I haven't had many twinges, just very heavy feeling down below!
