Safest delivery for gestational diabetes?

We nearly had shoulder dystocia I think with our last baby 10 years ago who was 9lb 5 and I remember a tense moment during delivery when I couldn’t push any harder but he was stuck. It felt like hours but must have been seconds or minutes and luckily he was ok.
I’m worrying now as now also have gestational diabetes and I know that a safer delivery can be helped by an earlier induction (both our babies so far were a week and then two weeks late respectively ) but is this safer than a Csection?

Also how do C sections work as can one sometimes just request one even when a VD is seen as ok?
Thank you

I had gestational diabetes last time. My experience was that I was under a consultant and had additional growth scans. I was induced at 39 weeks and all went well. You can always request a c-section though. I’m sure you will be seen by a consultant and can discuss options /risks/benefits etc with them - hopefully once you know more about baby’s estimated size.

Thank you so much . Yes it will be good to be able to discuss with them and am glad your induction went well

I had GD and two failed inductions. The hospital failed me significantly with my first baby who ended up with severe Respiratory distress. Ended up on a ventilator. They needed to give me steroid injections. The hospital have now changed their policy. But it almost cost my baby’s life. It was touch and go for 4 days.

In the end I had level 2 emergency cesareans. I would advise a c-section with steroids for lung maturity

I had it with both DCs and was induced at 40 weeks. It was a while ago but I think I had scans every month or so to keep an eye on their growth and because they were average, they let me go to term. If they were bigger, no doubt the choices might have been different.

I would talk to your consultant and see what they think. They might just decide that with your history, a Planned C-section is the way to go.

Thank you . I am really sorry you had that stress Ilostit and it it what worries me, that there can be more complications. And that growth/weight seems quite hard to track accurately even with extra scans.
