Natural birth after episiotomy

had to have an episiotomy and forceps delivery with my first birth. Unfortunately my stitches split open and got infected, they wouldn’t re-stitch so had to heal naturally and I now have some scar tissue there. The midwife has never said anything but I’ve been reading up and it says scar tissue doesn’t stretch so a lot of women end up having to have a second episiotomy. I really don’t want to have this again! It caused me a lot of trauma last time. Just wondered if anyone else had managed to give birth naturally after this happening? Think I’d rather try and get a section if it came to this, my little boy was also severely distressed, cut and bruised after forceps too and I lost a lot of blood.

I had an episiotomy with my first. Baby also dragged out of me. It was horrible. The next 2 were pretty uneventful births. Small tear after second in a different place and no tearing with third.

I also had an episiotomy with my first and stitches. I asked to be allowed to tear and refused stitches with my second and that was far less painful, both at the time and healing.

I had an episiotomy and a third degree tear with my first. Stitched up in surgery. Had a normal vaginal delivery with just a small graze with baby 2.

Had an episiostomy with my first. Stitches split and got infected. I now have scar tissue and it's very tight there. 16m later I had DS2. Small labia graze, but no tear or need for another episiostomy.

Midwife said she protected it like it was her own. So definitely possible.

Both same size babies with 34.5cm heads

I was told it was very likely I'd tear much worse and need to be in hospital for second birth for inevitable surgery. Baby came quickly at home, no one present, tiny tear, almost nothing compared to first. I feel the fact I was standing was better than my enforced lying on my back previously. You have to listen to the advice, it can go wrong but clearly it is not the 'definite' event I worried my way through pregnancy with. Hope all goes well, research birthing positions to see if anything can help. Good luck.

Episiotomy, forceps and PPH with my first. Long labour and stitches split and got infected also. Second baby - fast labour with none of these issues. Did tear but he was super quick so no avoiding that really. Healing has been much better though. So different from first time round.

Hello. If you are not yet pregnant it may be worth asking about scar tissue removal. I didn't have an infection after my double episiotomy/forceps with my first son but they did stick me incorrectly so I had to gave 2 Fenton procedures which left scar tissue. I then had the scar tissue removed.

Second time round was altogether a different birth. I was worried but they would not do aa planned C section as no medical reason to put me through surgery. They did induce at 37 weeks though to aid the birth. I had a natural birth with just gas and air, small tear with a fee stitches that I didn't even feel dissolve that time round.

I had an episiotomy and forceps with dc1. I tore either side of it too and was in a mess. Absolutely fine with dc2 who was a pound bigger. I still needed a couple of stitches after dc2 but it was nothing like the first. Good luck Smile

Bless you OP, that sounds awful Flowers

I had a ventouse and episiotomy delivery with DD as we were both exhausted and in distress after 12+ hours (I also had preeclampsia). I had an epidural for her too.

4 years later I had DS, he was a very fast labour (20mins pushing) with no time for anything other than gas and air. I tore slightly along the episiotomy scar but it wasn't too bad.

I hope it goes well for you.
