Iv been wanting a home birth since before I got pregnant. Iv went into labour twice on my own and been induced with my last baby at 38 weeks. My labour progressed quickly and Iv been told if I was to have anymore children and go into labour on my own we are looking at 30mins max labour. With my last I went from 3cm to birth in 40mins. So Iv been thinking about a home birth. Partner is a bit unsure about the what if it goes wrong but Iv looked online and found out that it’s usually straight forwards.

So If you did have a home birth, would you recommend it?

I did. I had my second son at home, it was planned to be a water birth, though I got out of the pool at the end. I had two midwives with me and a really good experience. There was one little hitch as he had shoulder dystocia and they had to push him about a bit on the way out, which hurt a bit but no major difficulties. We had made lots of plans for DS1 but in the end we thought he would sleep through his brother arriving in the early hours but he heard the noise and came down, and was present for the birth. The two of them are very close although there is over 3 years between them so I think it was actually very beneficial. It was so lovely to go to my own bed afterwards, have a special cooked breakfast prepared by DH and be up and about almost as normal the next day. We had two dogs at the time and they were a bit bemused about an extra person just appearing but again probably helped them accept the situation.
I had the benefit of a first birth, with DS1 at a private hospital which was very committed to natural births and although the labour went on for far longer than the NHS would have allowed it was incident free, they actually suggested a home birth for my second.
In short a great experience, highly recommended.

Had my first and second babies planned at home. Highly recommended.
Relaxed, not having to travel having contractions was fab, and having all my home comforts nearby was lovely. I loved the community midwives too.
My second baby I just got on with my day in labour and then when things ramped up I phoned in but midwife only arrived ten mins before little man arrived SmileI wouldn’t ever consider a hospital birth unless there was a very serious medical reason that warranted it.

I've had three home births so would recommend that you consider it depending on your own circumstances.

My first (hospital) was fast (2h45) and very straightforward. There was no reason for me to be there.

My midwife recommended homebirths for me after that. It's amazing to give birth, have a shower, and then climb into you own bed (freshly made by the midwives).

I had a home birth with dd1 (15)

Highly recommended it. Quiet. A comfy bed. A bath tub fir after. And a midwife who is actually present. 2 in fact. Maybe even 3 if u get a student.

Compare that to the awful hospital birth
with dd2 (11) where I've never felt so abandoned, ignored and unsafe in my life and I still kick myself fir not going against advice and staying home.

Thank you everyone I do remember the feeling of being left by the midwife’s in hospital. Just going in my dinner break, such and such will pop in make sure your ok, yeah but I’m ready to push! Yeah just wait till I get back will be fine. So I sat there for an hour thankfully had my epidural so didn’t feel too much, with my baby pretty much crowning for an hour. She got back from her dinner and 1 push for the head 1 for his body. I felt so abandoned by her that she did that to me. With my last I didn’t bother with the epidural and he was quick but i think I’d feel much happier in my own home not having to travel while having contractions

I planned one with my first but ended up transferring in. To be honest with the experiences of all three, I think home birth would have been great. The travelling to hospital and going through triage was so disruptive to the labour process, especially with covid regulations.

As long as you're not too far from hospital and I would want to know what local ambulance provision is like. If the ambulance service is strained and could result in long waits that would put me off. Home birth is fine as long as there's a back up option.

I had both of mine at home, both fast labours. My husband wasn't sure at first but was a complete convert after the first one. It's just so much nicer and especially if you have other children as they can be at home as well and you all settle in as a family afterwards.

Both at home.

The level of attention I got from the MWs was amazing, 2 MW plus a student the whole time. The students were actually really good as they were chatty and excited.

I had planned to go for a hospital birth for my second one as lived a bit further away from the hospital. But the week before my friend had a horrible hospital experience so I changed my mind. So glad I did.

I’ve got nothing to compare it to but being at home allowed me to move about lots. I did lots of walking up and down stairs. Getting in and out the bath. Bouncing on my ball watching tv.

My DH actually sat working most of the day for my second Hmm
