Scared of Giving Birth

Hello All,

I'm 33 weeks pregnant and had a growth scan today. Apparently DD already weighs 6lbs 14ozs and they estimate that she will weigh 9.5lbs if I give birth at 40 weeks. Now I'm terrified of giving birth to a such a big baby. I know that these growth scans are sometimes inaccurate, but all I can think about now is how much is going to hurt.
Anyone had a big baby and how was it?

Thanks!

I'm only 5' 1" and 8 and half stone and my DD was nearly 9 lb. Don't know why I ever worried, giving birth was easy in comparison to bringing up a baby!!

In honesty, yes it 'hurts' but it's an animalistic pain that you've got nothing to compare it with. It's over in a short time, you forget it very quickly and you're on your way to meet your baby.

Personally I found the contractions painful but when it got to the pushing stage it was about brute strength and felt like the hardest workout I've ever done.

I really looked forward to giving birth, kept thinking about it being like an extreme sport, not an experience everyone gets to have, a real physical challenge. Definately start some positive thoughts especially about holding that little girl in your arms afterwards. Beautiful, makes me want to have another!

At 34 weeks I was told ds2 weighed 6.5 lbs. That was very scary considering that ds1 weighed 6lb 1 oz at birth. I was told that if I carried to term he would be a 10 lb baby. They talked induction, I said no, and 39+4 he was born weighing and whopping . . . . 7lb 10oz. I've had 2 babies and both times the estimate were wrong. A day before ds1 was born I was told he would weigh 7.5 lbs. All they can do is estimate.
