If you had a traumatic first birth did you go back to the same hospital for #2 and how was it?

I went back to the same hospital as it was really the only option. However, DC2 was an ELCS (that I fought for almost the whole way through the pregnancy) and that delivery was about as far removed from the nightmare of DC1s failed induction as I could get.

I wasn't comfortable going back but was better informed and out 24h after the section.

Do you have a choice of hospital?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 24/02/2022 22:18

Yes. Ended up with a second emcs but a thousand times better than my first. Everyone was really supportive.

No I did not. Had no.2 at home. So much easier, more relaxed, calmer. No. 3 was an emergency c-section, so no choice.

Bigoldmachine · 24/02/2022 22:34

No but only because I had moved house (not helpful sorry)

Spottybotty20 · 24/02/2022 22:35

No I went to a different hospital and had an amazing birth 2nd time around.

Yes and it was great - so much of it comes down to the actual midwife you get in my experience

I had an awful time delivering no1 in my local hospital and did not go back. I had all the rest of my children at home and each of their births was wonderful. Do you have other options?

ElephantandGrasshopper · 24/02/2022 22:43

No I didn't. I had to go there for an unrelated reason when my DC1 was about one and felt really panicky just being there. So I opted for a home birth, with a different hospital as plan b.

I did, after quite a rocky first birth culminating in an EMCS first time around.
I was always clear I wanted an ELCS second time around and requested a debrief for my first birth while I was pregnant for the second time. The debrief was massively helpful but led me to raise concerns I still had about the first birth with the hospital’s PALS (patient liaison service). They in turn put me in touch with a senior member of the obstetric team, who discussed why certain things had happened as they did and listened to my feedback.
She and my original midwife were both part of the team for my ELCS, which couldn’t have been more different - a thoroughly positive and calm experience.
Best of luck with your birth.

Yes I have opted for a different hospital for now ( more local) but may switch back if I have an elective as I have had a bit of contact with the obstetricians
