Birth injury

I am wondering if anyone else experienced similar to me or knows of anyone? I had my baby boy 4 months ago now. I had a vaginal birth which was extremely traumatic I won't go into that too much. I had an epidural. Anyway afterwards I was unable to move from the waist down completely paralyzed. I have slowly got feeling and mobility back but my foot is still numb. I have issues still with walking. I am coming to terms with what happened but hospital is not supportive or helpful. I would really love to hear from anyone else experienced similar? Thankfully I am getting movement back. Neurologist believes it was baby too big pushing on nerve or some kind of birth injury. Really could do with support as I work through the trauma. Thankful myself and baby survived

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that. I also had a traumatic birth after an epidural, and was left with a large numb patch along the side of my upper leg. Luckily for me it didn't impact walking or anything like that. It probably took about 9 months until it was back to normal so I hope yours comes back too. It just improved gradually and slowly.

I can hugely recommend going for a debrief at the hospital if you feel like it was traumatic for you. I was sceptical but it was very good

Thank you for that. I am apprehensive about going back in. I was told to write a letter to ask questions or complaints I have but seriously just struggling to do this. I am really scarred by the experience. I am wondering if it all affected you mental health wise?

I’m so sorry to hear that you have gone through this. It’s so shocking what is still happening to women during childbirth. I had a different type of birth injury and didn’t get much support. I pushed for physio support and did get it which helped a lot - both physically and mentally. Do try and speak to the hospital about physical /physio

You don't need to rush into it, I didn't do mine for 2 years when I got pregnant with my second. They really helped me think through what had happened and decide whether or not to have a c section second time around (I did!)
Luckily I don't think it affected my mental health. If you think it is affecting yours then it would be worth getting some support to process everything. Hope you are okay

Thanks for the replies. Yes really struggling I am doing counselling but it's just shock I think. Yes I would definitely get c section if I am lucky enough to get pregnant again. You would not believe the treatment I received afterwards I was being blamed for the paralysis as a psychological reason. I do not agree with this as it's actually quite common and neurologist in another hospital said it was nerve damage. It's just very difficult to process it all and take care of a baby. It is only now that I can care for him on my own which was heartbreaking how dependent I became on other people. I have started to go on walks now but do really need physio. The psyhsio in the maternity hospital was very unhelpful found them not trained properly too used to pregnancy complaints and not post partum injuries. I am curious if anyone else had any after affects? If google it I find other women who are Similar and ended up permanently in wheelchair
