Does anyone have any recommendations for a good course?

I did NCT that at the time was on zoom and that touched on hypnobirthing.

Apart from that I read books on hypnobirthing, watched births on YouTube from outside a hospital setting and I listened to the free birth society podcast. I had absolutely no intention of free birthing but they approach birth in a very different way to most. They were also incredibly honest.

I think that combination really helped me. During my labour and birth I knew exactly what was going on at each stage and had the confidence that I knew what to do.

The Positive Birth Company

Don't waste your money it's an absolute load of nonsense!!
Go with your body and don't get ripped off by these people

Positive birth company is great. I did it but didn't take it all too seriously.... I didnt go packing candles or fairy lights in my hospital bag 🤣 The content was so useful to help understand what your body is going through, what it is that's causing the pain and the breathing techniques. My husband also enjoyed watching the videos with me so he knew how to be the best birth partner and get me back on the right track with the breathing if I had a wobble.

My aim was to get as far through labour as possible without 'intervention' as it can sometimes slow things down. When the big day came I used the breathing techniques plus tenns machine to get me as far as I could then opted for an epidural after about 24hrs.

@Geranium1984 yes candles and fair lights aren't happening that's for sure!! 😆 But I totally believe in breathing techniques, so will give an online course a try I think. A friend did a proper course (not online) and found it extremely useful during the birth of her children, but these face to face courses are SO expensive... Glad to hear you had a good experience using both the course and TENS, as that's what I'm going to do too.

The positive birth company is brilliant!

I also found the birth-ed one good. They do an online course for about £40, but you can also listen to their podcasts free.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I haven't purchased anything yet but I should probably get on with it urgently as I'm 34 weeks now and who knows, she might want to come out and greet us early!!

Have you had the baby yet? Keep us updated if it's helped x
MiracleBaby2022 · 23/02/2022 21:14

@springbaby22 not yet! I'm 35+1 today so a little while to go yet (hopefully!). Haven't done the course yet either but will definitely update on here if I do buy it and how it goes during labour.

I did the positive birth company at 35 weeks and I felt so much better for understanding what happens during labour and the role of hormones. I had a great birth.

MiracleBaby2022 · 23/02/2022 22:00

@thebigpurpleone oh that's encouraging! I'll get onto it this weekend - I like knowing what's happening too, it helps immensely doesn't it!

@MiracleBaby2022 honestly I was so clueless before. I stayed upright from my first contraction and focused on the breathing, did lose it a couple of times but got the breathing under control and somehow remembered my down breathing at the final stage, all went well. I stayed at home for hours with the Freya app and tens machine because I knew I'd progress better in my own environment.

MiracleBaby2022 · 24/02/2022 15:44

@thebigpurpleone I'm being induced and supervised due to my age and health conditions so I don't think I'll be able to do the early stages at home unfortunately. I have got a tens machine too, did you find it helpful? I have drug intolerance so I'll have to rely on it for the best part of the early stages...
