Covid positive before an elective csection

Please reply if you've been in the same position recently!

I've just tested positive on a lateral flow test for covid. My elcs is booked for this Friday (3 days away) and I'm now stressing that my section will be postponed due to this. 2 people I know personally haven't had this happen but I've had the WORST luck during the pregnancy and if this was going to happen.. it'd end up happening to me.

My pcr is booked for tomorrow at hospital as that's the routine, but I don't think I'll sleep tonight having the uncertainty on my mind. So any experiences will be gratefully appreciated

(Elcs booked for 39+1 due to medical reasons)

Each hospital is different I think you can call the covid team and ask but if its too risky to push back to Monday I'm sure they will go ahead in the same way as if someone who was in for an emergency section was positive in the hospital I just agave birth in if positive you just have separate room no ward and staff wear extra PPE.

Ring them before you go for pcr so they are aware and can put your mind at ease about what it would mean for the csection. Good luck OP, Hope you're not feeling unwell and have a speedy recovery after your csection with your new little bundle.

In our hospital they definitely do covid+ patients for elective sections. It just may be that you're last on the list to avoid delaying the list.

gogohm · 26/01/2022 06:28

Tell them before you go to the hospital for the pcr because they have special protocols in place - they may wish to delay by 72 hours for instance if it's safe to do so

My section is on Monday (38 weeks) and there is a covid outbreak in my daughters preschool so she's off with us and we are on the edge thinking she might have got it. I asked my consultant what would happen if I got it and she said that they would still proceed with the section as in my case I'm high risk (diabetes, severe polyhydraminios) but if it were a section in low risk patient they'd maybe wait until they were out of isolation. You need to ring the obstetrician and ask them what the situation is for your individual case. No one on here can give you an answer as the obstetrician will make a decision whether to proceed or postpone as the weight up benefit / risk

Hello different rules for different trusts I think. My c section is scheduled for 39+2; if my first positive test was say some time before that they might push back by a day or 2 to allow time for a negative test but wouldn’t do so pushing it back meant getting too close to my due date.

They would go ahead with a c section while I had Covid if necessary but unfortunately I would have to come in alone - no partner during or to visit after.

Also I'd speak to them because you probably won't need that PCR now as Positive LFT will confirm covid - saves another cotton bud up the nose!

Also Ive just gotten clear (had to wait the full 10 days 😭) but as I was 37/38 weeks with a risk factor they put me on blood thinners so it might be worth checking that.

As far as I know though, sections will still go ahead but I guess if the risk is low and you're happy to it might be worth waiting until your negative 🙂

What happened? Assume you've had the baby?
StressedButBlessedx · 07/02/2022 23:30

@redandwhite1

Yes I had my little boy via elcs as planned.. kind of.

My partner tested positive as well as me, so they said the person I brought in with me would have to be negative or I'd have to go in and stay on my own.

The only negative person at the time was my dad so he supported me and stayed with me from when we arrived on Friday morning, until I was moved to a private recovery room (no ward because of covid). The rules meant he couldn't stay.. which even the midwives said made no sense but obviously out of their control.

Overall it was actually a nice, comfortable experience and the doctors and midwives were especially lovely! Just a shame DH couldn't be with me:( I just made sure I was up and about ASAP and was discharged 26 hours later x

Congratulations on the birth of your baby boy! Glad it went ahead for you, but sorry your dh had to miss it. But I can imagine your dad is tickled pink to have been there with you insteadSmile I'd imagine he will have a very special bond with his grandson!

Hi ladies, i am having a planned C.section on Wednesday because my baby is breech
But my partner has tested positive yesterday and today i tested positive. I called midwife to inform them and they have told me my partner can't be there cause he's postive and he cant even pick me up when i will be taking the baby home. Am terrified bacause i have no family to ask to come with me and my partner can't even pick me up. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance
