What were you doing when you went into labour?

Being induced tomorrow. Today is my final day to attempt everything I possibly can in a single day to put myself in spontaneous labour (I'm only 39 weeks, so I don't have the highest hopes, my others came at 40!)

What were you doing the day you went in labour? Had you done anything immediately beforehand? Do you think anything you'd done that day may have kickstarted something?

Wishful thinker here Grin I'll try just about anything - except anything that will just give me the squits (by that I mean castor oil!)

Number 1 I was in bed. Number 2 I had a hotel and was cooking snacks for the guests. My DD started in labour walking round Cheshire Oaks and the second time she had been walking round a theme park all day .

sadmad · 23/01/2022 13:38

Had a massive fight with DH both times 😂 second time also spent an hour bouncing on the ball the night before and contractions started at 4am

itsacovidxmasone · 23/01/2022 13:39

A spin class that morning and a hot bath in the evening. Waters broke two hours after the bath... at 35 weeks Grin

showersandflowers · 23/01/2022 15:56

I went got an hour long walk and then scrubbed the house clean... it worked but I was exhausted in labour. Good luck!

annlee3817 · 23/01/2022 16:03

I sat on the couch all day eating and feeling sorry for myself, put my hypnobirthing Cd on as usual at bed time, went to sleep and woke up to dull period pains, then waters started going

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 23/01/2022 18:18

Sleeping. Every single time. Went to bed, woke up in labour.

Dc1 I bounced on a ball a lot, walked a lot, went to aquanatal and swam almost every day. Even went to aquanatal at 42 weeks. Child was born at 40+15.

Dc2 I had severe depression and mainly sat on my arse and ate cake and hid the packaging from dh. Dc2 came at 40+3.

Dc3 I was walking around 7 or 8 miles a day doing school and nursery drop off and pick up. The lazy arse didn't come until 40+13.

So essentially my very unscientific study suggests that sitting on your arse eating cake is the way forward.

DockOTheBay · 23/01/2022 18:23

I was asleep the first time so can't imagine I was doing much!

The second time I did have a curry the night before but I really doubt it did anything as it wasn't a spicy one and I was 5 days overdue so not surprising.

FindingMeno · 23/01/2022 18:42

Painting the bathroom Shock

Chanel05 · 23/01/2022 18:46

It was 6.30am and I simply was woken by a contraction.

eandz13 · 23/01/2022 18:46

These comments are making me feel better about falling to sleep at 1pm and not waking until tea time! Blush
I had every intention of getting some miles in, went and had a shower, sat on the bed to check my phone and before I knew it it was 5pm and there was a crumpled pillow imprint on my face. Still time yet I suppose Grin

I was in bed, DH and I had done the deed a few hours before in a desperate attempt to get things moving and it worked, 3 hours later I woke with intense contractions.

Imonaspendingban · 23/01/2022 18:51

No 1-I woke up to my waters breaking
No 2-woke up to labour pains
No 3-woke up and promptly gave birth stood up on the landing floor
No 4-woke up to a massive contraction
No 5-woke up,got out of bed and waters broke
No 6-was in my lounge taking the piss out of the fact my sil owned a pair of spice girls platform trainers-waters broke

I think there’s a theme of me going into labour while asleep apart from the last who’s always done things her own way!

eandz13 · 23/01/2022 18:54

@Imonaspendingban really hoping this baby takes a leaf out of your first 5 babies books and I wake up in labour tomorrow!
Well, maybe not number 3, I can imagine DP would be a bit useless at helping me deliver and I'd have to calm him down! Grin

Hahaha
Good luck (ands here’s hoping that baby not only comes soon, but pops out when you get to hospital with proper midwives)
Congratulations by the way

I had been in the park literally all day with my 4 yr old so lots of walking.
When she went to bed we watched a comedy thing and I sat in the corner of the with my feet together tucked in towards me and knees apart. How you'd sit during yoga I guess.
I could feel baby really low while sat this way. I think the laughing from the comedy show spiked my oxytocin and the position helped baby move down.
She was born 4hrs later!

CreedBratton · 23/01/2022 19:31

Sex first thing in the morning, then lazy breakfast before going for a long walk. Contractions started on the walk - I think the sex did it!

Iwonderwhatsnext · 23/01/2022 19:34

I was asleep and woken by a massive pop. I’d recommend walking and orgasms x

crimblecrumbles · 23/01/2022 20:12

I was living in London for DC1. I was 6 days overdue and fed up so wanted to go somewhere that would be slightly inconvenient if I went into labour but not too tricky to get home/hospital (just to test my luck!). Walked around soho all day and then went home and started to have some pains. All I had eaten that afternoon was hummingbird rainbow cake. When I eventually got to hospital I was throwing up some very colourful stuff!

Indecisive29 · 23/01/2022 20:21

@eandz13 I was induced too OP and I played the same game as you 🤣 nothing did get it started though 🤣
Best friend was being induced and woke up at 4am on the morning of her induction, went to the loo and her waters went. 8 hours later she had her baby lol. So there’s time for you yet 🤞🏼😊

Just to add though, although induction for me was definitely long, I had a very positive experience 😊 I was pretty terrified of it because of all the negative things I’d seen everywhere but I gave birth at 3am and was home on my own couch with my baby by 3pm 😊 tiny internal tear and a few dissolving stitches 👍🏻

Samanabanana · 23/01/2022 20:23

Ate a roast dinner and then had awkward sex Grin good luck!

SecondhandTable · 23/01/2022 20:28

First labour - sleeping. Mild period-type pain woke me up around 4am and that was the start.

Second labour - tidying up and getting ready for bed etc. I'd had mild period-type pain for a few hours but I'd had this on and off for a couple of weeks with my second pregnancy so it wasn't until a few hrs later, around 10pm at night when I was getting ready to go to bed that it became actual mile contractions which were the start.

Very annoying, I had two instrumental deliveries and I wonder if part of my shite pushing was the lack of sleep/exhaustion. DC1 I slept about 4hrs, went into labour at 4am, delivery not until 9.30am the following day! DC2, I'd been up since 7am and delivery was around midday the following day! Never been more exhausted in my life.

TolkiensFallow · 23/01/2022 20:38

I went into labour the night before I was being induced. I literally bounced on the sodding ball until my waters broke.

I’ve got a couple of friends who also went into labour the night before and both recommend sex.

Frazzled2207 · 23/01/2022 20:39

Dc1
Went for an hour long walk. Things started kicking off as soon as I got back.

Dc2. Was just sitting on the ball eating breakfast when first contraction struck. Very relaxed. I think just went about my day with occasional contractions here and there and then after going round sainsburys (not sure what I was thinking) at 4pm it properly kicked off

Crazydoglady123 · 23/01/2022 20:44

@eandz13 I just wanted to say I'm being induced Friday (40+3 today) and I'm trying everything and anything! Friday and today I walked 6km each day and I've been bouncing on the ball non stop that I'm actually shattered. My midwife appointment today my waters are apparently bulging and I'd love a quick answer to make them go naturally before Friday so I'll be following 🙏🏼 Good luck with your induction tomorrow if not too. Mine was a really good experience with my DS (42 weeks) and from pessary to birth was around 10 hours

PinkandBlueMotherofTwo · 23/01/2022 21:53

First time I mowed the lawn and went on a walk then boom labour that evening.

Second time dtd and labour started couple hours later Grin
