Has anybody been induced by having waters broken?

I'd psyched myself up for a section but baby has now decided to shift himself into a good position for birth, so I'm being induced in a few days by having my waters broken as my cervix is favourable enough to avoid the gel (which is ace, my uterus hyperstimulated last time I had it!)

Has anybody had experience with this? Will it go from 0 - 100 straight away? What should I expect?!

I’ve had two babies by induction first one, Labour started after they broke my waters no need for any other intervention DD born within two hours. Second baby waters broke, nothing happened, had the drip started two hours later, contractions started two hours after that and he was born within two hours. The drip made the contractions more painful for me, I had gas and air for both.

Yes 3 times with my 3rd, 4th and 5th babies. First was a pessary induction during which my waters broke and I ended up on the drop with an epidural)

The three ARM labours have been different but personally I think that was due to when I had them done. I had an internal before 4 and 5.

Anyway. Dd3 was induced at 42wks, I had a good Bishop score (7 or 8 I think) they broke my waters, told me to go for a walk to the loo. As soon as I stood up my contractions started and yeah did go from 0-100 pretty quick, she was born 2hrs later. This probably my favourite of my 5 births as I was able to have her standing up.

DS (4th) was induced at 40wks due to large size. A few days prior to agreeing I had an internal where the consultant said I was about 2cm. So went ahead. MW breaking my waters smugly told me I was about 1cm (I have had many fab MW but she was decidedly odd and thankfully went off shift before I started labouring) Anyway probably because this was early for my body, waters were broken and nothing happened, so I ended up on the drip with epidural. Once the drip had got me to established labour it was only 4hrs.

Dd4 (5th) was born last summer and again I was induced by ARM. This time due to age at 41wks. There was talk of a balloon induction first though I told them I wouldn't need that we went though the motions of them assessing, saying yeah you're right the balloon would just fall out 🤣 and having another couple of sweeps. I was 1-2 from about 39wks and 3-4 when they broke my waters.
This was much like DD3 birth, they broke my waters, I stood up, contractions went immediately to 1min apart. She was born 2hrs later.

All positive labours though I would say I tend to contract with little or no break between, which I thought was the drip but I think is just me.

Good luck.

My first induction was horrible with pessary SadSadSad

My 2nd was with breaking the waters and it went really smoothly!!!

But honestly it seems that induction goes well if you're not too far from natural labour 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did find that my response to contractions with pessary was worse, I threw up a lot, felt super uncomfortable, couldn't stand my gown, had to have epidural and then it wore off but I still couldn't go on my fours or anything, it was torture. My 2nd birth felt more.... animalistic Grin in a good way. It was shorter (so fantastic! 3hr) but also I responded in a funny way: between contractions I shut down (my body would go into rest but my mind was present, weird), and I was grunting during contractions Grin felt natural

I had my waters broken at 11:30 and gave birth at 23:00 same day Smile
I was pushing for two hours

Yep, I went in for an induction but they decided to start the process by breaking waters and it kicked off contractions more or less immediately. The breaking waters bit didn't hurt although I got a bit grossed out when I looked at it. But anyway IMHO it's massively preferable to an induction if you can get away with it Smile

Does anyone know if you have your waters broken do you still have the option of giving birth in the midwife-led units or does it mean you necessarily have to be in the main delivery bit because it counts as intervention/induction?

BurningBenches · 22/01/2022 15:57

@lavenderlilaclily depends on your trust and whether it's onsite, I think. So I had to be induced at the main hospital but I had the choice of delivery suite or the in house MLU on the top floor.
I couldn't have gone to one of the community based MLU in the county to be induced though.
