First world problem coming up! Been getting so much mixed information but can anyone help please? Are you allowed to have a shellac manicure on your own nails during a planned c section?

No. You must remove all nail varnish and makeup.

They ask for nothing on your nails so that they can see the colour of them (something to do with oxygen levels/circulation I think).

It would be fine where I work - we’d put the sats probe on sideways or on your ear. (Doi: anaesthetist)

At my preop they asked me specifically not to wear any kind of nail varnish but I do think it varies by hospital.
They also said no makeup or deodorant, no contact lenses but glasses were okay.

I've been wondering about this.. how do they go on with emergency c sections then in regards to make up / nail varnish as you're not advised not to have them for vaginal birth?

I had acrylic nails on when I had an emergency c. I think they monitored with my toe nails

You shouldn't have acrylic/gel nails. Better still, completely plain

wingingit33 · 20/01/2022 19:23

Following. What about makeup? I mean not full face but a slick of mascara and concealer for a planned section?

Garman · 20/01/2022 19:28

Make up is fine, up to you.

In an emergency situation they just do it with the varnish on if they don't have time to spare to take it off. Just ideally they don't want it on you for a csection if possible.

Sometimes they don’t want you wearing nail varnish (they let me keep mine on but it wasn’t shellac). I’d think it would be a big fat no for shellac
