Change in lochia

I had a C-section 12 days ago. By day 9-10, my bleeding was basically nonexistent to the point where I almost wanted to just remove the pad :D however, since yesterday evening the bleeding re-started. It's heavy but not extremely. My scar is healing well but it's hurting more than a few days ago and it's also numb (which I know is pretty common). Is it normal for the bleeding pattern to change? I know my period definitely does that.

It can be yes. How heavy is heavy? From experience I'd decide to go pad free then it would start again. It can also be a sign you've done too much. With dc1 & 2 I'd all but stopped by 14/15 days, with dribs & drabs until around 4 weeks, it lasted longer with my next 3 dc. It was never constant after the initial 5-7 days though. I can't help with the scar/incision site pain, it's possible you've just overdone it though. If it's concerning you don't be afraid to call your maternity unit or gp/practice nurse though, from experience of post op infections it's better to be on top of these things than put it off.

Agree, can be. I bled for 12 weeks after and this is also completely normal!

I'd get in contact with your midwife anyway.

I noticed changes with lochia as the weeks went on. Sometimes I’d think it had stopped and then it would come back. Incision pain came and went for me and sometimes it would also get a bit unexpectedly bleedy, I had a postnatal debrief at the hospital two weeks ago and the consultant checked the scar and was happy.

I’m 9.5wks post partum now and still get the occasional incision pain.

Thank you so much for your replies, I found this very reassuring.
