When to raise maternal request ELCS?

I’m 15w pregnant and very, very certain I want an ECLS due to age, FTM and a complicated gynae history.

At what point in your pregnancy do you raise this with your hospital? I’ve had my booking and 12 week appointments already. Many thanks for any advice.

I did it at 15 weeks when it became clear that my pre existing health issues would be an issue and I was sent to see the consultant who performs the sections, I wasn't told it was too early to ask either they were quite pleased to help. Be prepared to put your foot down if they try to resist though.

Anytime really. Earlier the better probably! I did at booking with my last 2. Your hospital probably has a birth choices clinic you can attend to discuss pros and cons of both options. But may be pointless if you’re already certain.

I asked at my 12 week app then they made me a 16 week app with a consultant to discuss

Brilliant, thank you everyone. I’ll raise it at my 16w phone call. I just wasn’t sure if it was worth bringing it up this early.

Earlier the better incase you have a fight on your hands. In my trust planned sections had to be signed off By 2 consultants

Agree with everyone. Best to keep mentioning it. They might not do anything until you get to birth plan stage but still good to mention it.

Due to similar reasons I mentioned it at my booking appointment and had a phone call from a consultant and had received my ELCS date before the 20 week scan. This from a trust that appears very anti ELCS on the website (implies you need to go private to request it). It's rated Amber on Birthrights. I have seen many many midwives and none have commented unfavourably, which surprised me too. Whether they mean it or not quite a few have said it seems a good choice for me.
