Talk pain relief options to me…

This is my 3rd baby. I’ve tried pethadine, diamorphine and gas and air. All 3 made me talk utter rubbish and made me woozy and sick. Are there any other options I can try, besides an epidural(which I want to avoid if possible)

Have you tried them all in both labours? The reason I ask is because I hated gas and air in labour 1 and the pethadine was really trippy but in labour 2 the gas and air was great and the pethadine enabled me to get a bit of sleep.
Tens machine was good with the gas and air. Hot water bottle was great until it went cold and they weren’t allowed to refill it. I really wish I’d taken a flask and dh would have refilled it. Standing under a hot shower as they have never ending hot water is quite good.

Tried the IV ones during separate births. Gas with both. So not sure if it’s just the gas that made me feel horrible? I’m going to try and cope with just gas this time as the other harder stuff affects the baby too. Made mine very lethargic for a while after. I’m sure I’ll be begging for the good stuff at some point though!

If you’re planning to be at a hospital based labour ward then a remifentanil PCA may be an option. It’s a very short acting opioid that is delivered by pressing a button when a contraction starts. Some people like it, some don’t. Not everywhere has it available, but it may be worth asking.

@Greybeardy thanks. I’ve just googled this and it sound perfect for what I’m looking for! Thanks so much. I’ll speak to my midwife and see if this is available at my hospital
