After over 3 weeks of tightening and been in early labour since 4.30am Friday morning and was hoping would be all done and dusted by now.... but no. Baby seems to be of the opinion that tonight might be a good time . Am running a bath to try and slow it down as really dont want to be in tonight. How the feck can i slow this down?

Haha I had a feeling this would happen to you! I'm afraid when the baby wants to come baby will come. Good Luck and Christmas will just be extra special (and you'll get out of the cooking).

VVVExcitedAboutChristmasQV · 24/12/2007 21:08

ROFL at LGJ

Well, being tense about it generally will slow it down.

Something about a tight sphincter or summat....

Ledodgy · 24/12/2007 21:09

Your ds will be fine. Don't stress. Get your dp to sort out the stocking etc and either wake him up in time to open it with you ie whilst pain is still copeable or take it to his dad's with you.

callmeoverchristmas · 24/12/2007 21:11

Is there anyone else with you? Are you ready to go? I am going to nag but please make sure you give your self time to get there. Good Luck.

SpacecadetLovesChristmas · 24/12/2007 21:13

what will be, will be

CarGirl · 24/12/2007 21:14

hopefully a really quick labour, discharge yourself & then back in time for present opening!!!!

Awenamanger · 24/12/2007 21:21

dp here. He thinks this is all rather funny. (he would!). Have just run bath number 3 of the day, so will get in there. Have taken dyhydracodiene (prescribed by labour ward as prolonged latent phase). Just poped up to check in on ds as he has been in bed since 8.... still awake.

Dont think quick discharge will happen as hosp have been all stressy due to my prev birth experience. I know ds will be fine.. just argghh, not tonight please baby.

Thinking of drinking santas wine... is this a really bad idea?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 24/12/2007 21:23

small glass of wine will chill you and make you relax so in my completely uneducated experience say go for it!

Sparkletastic · 24/12/2007 21:25

Don't drink the wine - will just make you all wibbly and sick. Try and relax - que sera and all that. My 2nd was out in 20 mins flat and I bluddy nagged the midwives until they let me out. Let babby do its thang and be home for tea and toast!!

whomovedmychocolate · 24/12/2007 21:27

Ah go get the little monkey up, give him his pressies now, tell him santa came early as you had to go out and he wanted to give you a present before you went to the hospital. Go do it! You can't hold back the tide as it were. Good luck and I do hope they don't offer you a mincepie afterwards!

Awenamanger · 24/12/2007 22:07

ok.. so no wine Have got all his mummy and step-dad pressies under the tree also something from his baby brother too. Yet to fill the santa sack (all ready to go there tho). Am very tempted by the waking ds up and giving pressies early. I think if pains are unbearable i will follow whomovedmychoc advise and wake him up

So now large cork suggestions then?

Awen do you not just want it over with now? You have had such a hard slog getting this far and now your babe is in a good position, go for it. Everything else will fall into place. Definitely nono for the wine, with that pain killers you are on you will be mightely drunk in five minutes.

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 24/12/2007 22:15

I can't believe you are ready to pop your Christmas cracker Awen doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago you were announcing you were pregnant.

Anyway no real good advice sorry, I hope it's swift and as painless as can be, best wishes xxx

Awenamanger · 24/12/2007 22:17

madmouse - actually would like it over with but just really wish it wasnt tonight iykwim. The being a bit drunk doesnt seem such a bad idea tho.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 24/12/2007 22:18

exactly madly drunk = very good pain relief

lulumama · 24/12/2007 22:18

you can slow it, but you are prolonging the inevitable. chill, have a bath, and go with it

best of luck, my darling, all will be well x

madChristmasmouse · 24/12/2007 22:20

errr, I did say mightely drunk for a reason. I did not mean a bit drunk . More like very sick, confused, unable to stand, double tongue. You don't want that. Honest.

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 24/12/2007 22:20

a bath will speed it up not slow it down

lisad123 · 24/12/2007 22:33

having a bath...hmmm, i got out of bath and water broke everywhere 48 mins later dd2 was here im sure baths make it quicker
Good luck

lulumama · 24/12/2007 23:12

bath will slow down a non establisjed labuor, once you get to 5 cm or so it will set you off like a rocket, hopefully !

coby · 24/12/2007 23:16

lulumama - is that true? What do you call an unestablished labour? Sorry for the hijack but I've had two pretty long labours and don't want to slow things down this time (both times MW insisted I had a bath pretty early on)
