Hello, about to be booked in for a planned section. Just wondering has anyone been through similar lately? Basically, I'm worried about how I'm going to get through the first night. If anyone could give some advice/help it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance ❤️

You just have to ring for help with the baby whenever you need it, there isn’t really an alternative.

Garman · 08/01/2022 22:37

If you're breastfeeding ask them to set you up for bedsharing safely with the baby, makes it much easier when you can't move too easily.

WakingFromDreams · 08/01/2022 22:42

I was literally going to post the same thread tonight because I'd like to know more about it and what happens afterwards etc? I know all hospitals are different but there must be similarities in the process. And what happens in the days after.

SquigglePigs · 08/01/2022 22:45

It wasn't lately (DD is 3) but I was on my own over night and I had to buzz for help whenever DD needed picking up or putting down. I know some people have had mixed experiences but they were great when I was in and helped as needed.

ShowOfHands · 08/01/2022 22:48

I had my first CS at 10pm at night. I was back on the ward at midnight and had the baby in bed with me. I was fine to feed, change nappies, move around etc and they came and did regular obs so I could ask for anything else. I didn't need help though. I got up at 9am, showered, packed my stuff and was home by 11am.

Second was born at 3.30 in the afternoon. I was showered and catheter out before dinner and was happily looking after the baby overnight with no help necessary.

If you need help, press the buzzer. Our hospital encourages you up asap and home the next morning.

Have everything to hand, get up asap, take your meds on schedule if you need them, listen to the physio and enjoy your new baby 🙂

I read some bad experiences on mumsnet so was all ready to push through and take care of baby myself but my ward was really great. You just buzzed for help. I was lucky though as baby was really sleepy and out of it for first few days.

Chanel05 · 09/01/2022 16:02

You buzz and buzz and buzz some more, it's the only way.

birdglasspen · 09/01/2022 16:07

Ask for help. Be prepared with what you need and have it to hand so maybe in a bag you can hang near bed, I find a wee bin bag handy so you can put in nappies etc instead of walking to bin each time if your not feeling great. As you may be in longer than expected. But when your catather is in you get help and after to if needing it! Make good bags like shower stuff and pads into gether so you do t forget things and have to go back. Good luck!

mooloop · 09/01/2022 16:07

I had an EMCS in November and had no problems lifting my baby/breastfeeding etc, but you just have to buzz and the midwives will come to help you if you need it Smile

Moonbabysmum · 10/01/2022 18:54

It was fine 😌

After my husband went home, I called the been when I reached baby picked up for me or put back down. They volunteered to do her nappies, and we had a great night, after scoffing a dinner of roast beef. She slept in 3 hours intervals, waking briefly for feeds, and I watched a film on my tablet and slept. I actually really enjoyed that night when she was just mine and I didn't have to share 🥰

HalloHello · 13/01/2022 18:39

I had my elective csection at 5pm and was absolutely fine with my baby over night. By 8pm I was able to move myself in bed and used the controller to sit myself up for feeding. The cot was right beside me so was able to put baby in, and I had the table with my water, snacks and phone on the other side. I did ask for help to settle baby once as my milk hadn't come in and baby was hungry. Whatever you can manage is fine though and the midwives and care staff and there for a reason so use them if you need to. Don't fret.

Queenie6655 · 13/01/2022 21:42

Thank you

And when yoh got home??

Pain eased I hope !!!!

HalloHello · 13/01/2022 22:08

First few days was sore but my DH brought me everything I needed, and I just sat in my bubble with my baby on the sofa. It really wasn't that bad though, after first 4-5 days was much easier. Take pain killers regularly even if no pain and listnw to your body. I went shopping at day 8 thinking I was fine but I was wiped out after 30 mins.

Chasingaftermidnight · 16/01/2022 02:32

I had one on Monday. I buzzed a lot to ask for help during the first night but found I could do more than I expected. The midwives and other care staff know you’re on your own and they know you’ve had a caesarean! And I’ve found I’ve improved way faster than I expected too - it’s now day 6 and I feel so much better. I managed a 25 minute stroll yesterday.

If it’s helpful these are my hospital packing tips:

Pack an extra long (2m) phone charger so it’s easy to plug your phone in
Get your partner to put everything within easy reach before he/she leaves
Have a sports bottle for water with a flip top that you can drink from with just one hand.
Have HUGE loose knickers - I got a pack of Primark’s biggest - that go well over your incision. Get the largest size you think you could need… then go up one 😂
Pack disposable changing mats - in our hospital you have to change baby in their crib or on your bed. So I found having disposable changing mats really useful.
Take a couple of your own pillows - useful for propping yourself up and keeping baby’s weight off your incision when you’re feeding.

Really useful thanks all

Tried a dog walk yesterday and think I over did it with my active dogs but apart from that all ok and taking it very slow xxxxxxx

For those who have had one recently (Congratulations to you all!) .. how long did you stay in hospital afterwards?

I want to know this as dreading being in ages.
HalloHello · 20/01/2022 21:54

Mine was in August. I had the semi elective section at 5pm, obviously stayed in that night and then had to stay in an additional night as my BP was low due to blood loss, but if it wasn't for that, I would have been allowed out after 24 hours.

Queenie6655 · 24/01/2022 00:01

Hello

Firstly best of luck

And secondly I only stayed in for one night after mine

Had c section at 9am
Out the following day at 6pm

Hospital staff help so much with everything
It really is all ok xxxxxxx

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/01/2022 00:21

Baby born at 0440 a month ago, and stayed in till around 2pm the following day. We were delayed waiting on meds from pharmacy though.

We had a bad 1st night, but most midwives were helpful, one was a bit short with me as I had put the bed guard up,not knowing that trapped me on the bed. I was worried about dropping baby mid feed as I'd been up for 25 hours by that point with no sleep and didn't realise I couldn't fold it back down. I was having trouble settling baby and they eventually took him away to let me sleep for a few hours.
