Title says it all really. Just been thinking about it. Is it a case of 'Hi, my name is Sarah and I'll be in in a few hours and by the way is the pool free?'

Just wondered...

Pretty much Probably also say how far apart/long your contractions are and when you're due.

frostythesnowmum · 23/12/2007 20:36

I say "hi its only me" if I know the person if not it depends on why I'm calling.

onepieceoflollipop · 23/12/2007 20:36

I said "hello my name is Mrs Lollipop" then told them how long and far apart the contraction were and asked their advice. They had a spate of people giving birth almost on arrival so told me not to leave it too long as it wasn't my first.

muppetgirl · 23/12/2007 20:37

Got my dh to do it as I went straight into contractions every 3-4 mins lasting 60 secs. He just said that and they suggested that we came in! We had to arrange care for our son and we did...

frostythesnowmum · 23/12/2007 20:37

Just ignore me didn't see this was in childbirth section

MarsyChristmas · 23/12/2007 20:38

Name
Hospital number
Length and times of contractions
Request pool room if you're asked to go in.

knittingmama · 23/12/2007 20:38

they'll prob ask you questions before you have time to think about what to say.

BaubleMonkey · 23/12/2007 20:39

LOL! How silly, but I didn't know what to say either and got DP to phone for me.

Good luck btw

frostythesnowmum · 23/12/2007 20:39

they asked me if my contractions were regular but they weren't so they put me off coming in the first few times however my contractions never became regular so it's a good job I insisted

onepieceoflollipop · 23/12/2007 20:39

frosty I bet that some people actually do ring the labour ward in a slightly "dizzy" state and do say that very phrase!

BaubleMonkey · 23/12/2007 20:41

Frosty, I was really impressed that you had such a great relationship with the hospital that they'd just know it was you LOL

For DS2, DH called and said 'I'm bringing the missus down' then hung up.
He booked me in when we got there!

Sarahjct · 23/12/2007 20:43

LOL Frosty. OK so it's best to have your notes handy and some idea of what's happening with contractions and things.

Sorry, it's probably obvious but if I don't prepare I'll just make an arse of myself!

Sarah, I'm sure DP didn't have any notes but just said my name and that he was bringing me in because I was in labour. It's a good idea to have notes though, of course.

I'm LOL at 'I'm bringing the missus down'

callmeoverchristmas · 23/12/2007 20:48

DP got told to hand me the phone! apparently if you can't speak through a contraction they will tell you to go in

Tell them your due date as well as it will make a difference as to how seriously they take you - eg very early or overdue they should ask more questions. I rang on my due date and they were really relaxed with me. I rang 3 times before I dropped the phone mid convo! I went in then
