Can someone help?

TW - pic attached of episiotomy scar.

It sometimes oozes, sore to touch and bleeds a little bit there's no opening to a cut! So a bit confused to what's going with it!

Has anyone had this before?

I had similar, what stage are you at? Mine was stitches breaking down too soon so the skin didn’t heal together instead I had to wait for it to heal over together naturally. I’m 3 weeks post birth and it has turned from raw skin to healed from about day 12. The midwife gave me some skin healing gel made for open wounds called Flaminol hydro, I think that really helped healing

If it’s sore to touch and after the initial few days post birth you probably have an infection which needs antibiotics. I had 2 sets of 5 day courses, mainly as a precautionary as open wounds are very susceptible to infection.

Flutterby8 · 11/01/2022 23:48

How many days post birth are you?
It looks like it could be healing by second intention, so forming new granulation tissue to heal.
Mine did this after a stitch fell out on day 3.
It took a couple of weeks to heal but its absolutely fine now and youd never know anything had been done.
Keep everything really clean and dry. Rinse underneath with warm water every time you use the loo and have some time with no pants or pads to air the area.
If it is very uncomfortable get your midwife to take a look to rule out infections.

That's granulation tissue, it's very friable (bleeds easily) and can be sore. It should gradually turn a lighter pink as the final layer (epithelialisation) comes in Smile if it oozes yellow or green or is smelly, could be infection brewing so worth getting checked. Looks ok to me at the moment, I'm a nurse with lots of wound care experience x

I gave birth 4 weeks ago my episiotomy stiches opened up 2 times and they were restiched so I don't know if it's healing process or what?

Leilahtoni · 24/06/2022 21:17

I had an episiotomy and the stitches came undone and was left with a open wound on day 5 had antibiotics so stop infection I’m now 5 weeks pp and still healing is there anyone that can help this is how it’s been looking it’s soo much better and feel it’s healing more does anything look concerning to anyone that lumpy bit seems to get smaller I’m hoping it’s the skin forming?

AR94 · 21/01/2023 17:49

Hi! I'm 3 weeks PP, and my episiotomy area has developed these blisters due to pad-rashes as I'm not used to sanitary pads (I use tampons). Is it normal? Or is it not normal, but I'm on the path to recovery? Will I be okay? Because the blisters are very painful and I am not able to sit down.

Catherine1210 · 22/01/2023 08:08

@AR94 Try to limit the use of pads and air it out as much as you can. At home sit on a puppy pad if you are still bleeding postpartum rather than using a pad which allows no air flow. If you have to use a pad to leave the house etc put some sudocrem over the area first, so the pad doesn’t rub and it’s medicated cream so it will help to keep the area clean. Once you can get the pad off, clean with water and air it out again. The more air to the area the quicker it will heal. I wore long dresses or nighties at home with no underwear. If it still doesn’t feel like it’s healing contact your midwife/gp/nurse for further advice

AHRanasinghe · 16/11/2023 13:47

I am 28days of PP and i found there's a knot or something else of my stiches inside my vagina.its not coming out yet.is that normal or should i need treatments?my bleeding has stopped and i have yellowish white discharge and it has some odour.please help and thank you

LBF2020 · 16/11/2023 15:31

@AHRanasinghe I was told my stitches would dissolve within 20 days. The external ones came undone after 3 or 4 days and they decided not to restitch. The internal ones were removed by my midwife at 2 or 3 weeks PP as she said they weren't dissolving. Obviously you could have had different stitches but I would have expected them to have dissolved more at 4 weeks, the smell is also a concern. I would ring your midwife, you usually have 6 weeks open access after birth.
