Last timeslot for elective c-section?

When do you think hospitals do scheduled c sections the latest? (As in, what time)
I know it's hard to tell because of emergencies - but as a rule of thumb, say there are lots of delays, what would be the latest time for an ELCS?

As in in the day? I had the last slot at 4pm. Was supposed to be earlier but I was bumped for emergencies. DS was born at 4:30pm on the dot.

Thanks so much !

It can be late! My baby was born at 9pm as they had so many emergencies. My elective was for medical reasons so they didn't really want me to go to the next day. Perhaps if that wasn't the case I would have been asked to come back the following day.

wingingit33 · 03/01/2022 20:07

Last time I got there at 7.30am and there was various emergencies/ private patients. They told us they were going to send us home and to come back the next day but I burst into tears (hormonal and starving having been nil by mouth since midnight!) and then they called me down at 6pm. Dd was born at 6.45pm. I'm hoping my section next month involves a little less hanging around!

With dc1, I was scheduled for 9.30am. She was born at 4.16pm. We were very close to being re-scheduled for the next day.

theqentity · 03/01/2022 20:08

I had my elective at 11am.

SephrinaX · 03/01/2022 20:09

With my first I was told I was last that day and DS was out at 16:55.

CovidCorvid · 03/01/2022 20:10

It’ll depend on the hospital but my local one is very strict about rescheduling anything which will run after 5pm. The idea being that the on call doctor should not be tied up out of hours doing elective stuff.

Thank you! Very helpful.

They also might bump you to the next day if there are lots of emergencies…

Rekorderlig88 · 03/01/2022 21:17

Here they only do electives on a Tues and Thurs ams only.
Best to ask

Many hospitals run separate theatre lists for emergency and elective sections. They can't keep deferring planned sections - these babies need to be born.

Haroted · 03/01/2022 21:25

When I had my youngest DS, they had two arrival times, 7.30am and 1pm, 2 csections scheduled in the morning and two in the afternoon. Obviously this can change due to emergencies etc.

As it happened, I ended up delivering early, a semi emergency if you like (still a planned C-section but brought forward by 2 weeks), arrived on the delivery suite at 1pm and had him at 2.45pm. There was one other person waiting after me.

Davies1982 · 03/01/2022 21:30

4pm at ours - to be done for 5pm after which they will only do cat 1&2 - mine was a cat 3 and got rescheduled for the next day.

Sunbeams09 · 03/01/2022 21:46

Yes the last slot of the day was 4pm at my hospital too - typically I got that one! I was already in the hospital so didn’t need to go until it was almost time for my section, but sadly I’d had to be nil by mouth since midnight! Baby was born at half past 4.

Sunbeams09 · 03/01/2022 21:48

I should have mentioned also that it’s a separate theatre to emergency sections so the timings aren’t affected by emergencies coming in

rhowton · 03/01/2022 22:06

I was the third c section of the day, both times. My DDs were born at 2:30 and 2:31 (on two different days).
