I'm getting induced tomorrow, help

I'm currently 40+6, Iv had two failed sweeps (they couldn't reach the top of my cervix) and have been booked in for an induction tomorrow morning via a drip. If I'm honest I'm a little disappointed my body hasn't gone into labour naturally, mixed feelings about being induced but we're definitely ready to meet little one.
Has anyone else been induced via a drip? What we're your experiences especially with Covid, we're your partners allowed in etc? This is also my first baby so I'm going into this totally blind so any comments would be appreciated Smile

Yes, me! I tried to do it on just gas & air but ended up with an epidural as the contractions were extreme. If it happened again I'd ask for the epidural first before they started the drip (strongly advise you consider the same!) sadly I didn't progress (even at 41+5) and ended up with emcs but it was fine after I had the epidural. Wishing you all the best, you'll be meeting your baby soon! That's the main thing to keep focusing on (I felt a bit of a failure I didn't manage a natural birth but in the end the most important thing was having a healthy baby at the end of it)

Hey! Yes, I had DS in 2020 and I was induced due to waters breaking. Like PP said, I would advise the epidural. I was not prepared whatsoever for induction they told me it would be slightly more painful than without but I didn't think anything of it. I wish I had the epidural it was the worst pain ever! Baby got twisted so had to have emcs. My DP was allowed in the ward from 8-8. I hope this helps and really good luck. Thanks

Yes with my second. Had some gas n air but nothing else. Honestly the drip hurt the most!

Tips- make sure you get the drip etc adjusted so you can move about. Ask for pain meds if you need. Eat when you want. (I did but then vomited!) Remember the main thing is meeting your baby. The slight disappointment is normal but just have to push it away, your body has grown a whole human and will safely get him/her out- your amazing! Remember not everyone can do what you are! Good luck, this will change you forever in a good way ♥️

wigglerose · 02/01/2022 19:46

I wasn't allowed to eat at all after the drip had gone in (although it seems PPs were advised otherwise) and since it can be a long process I recommend you have a decent breakfast/lunch before going in for the drip.

rifling · 02/01/2022 19:48

Yes! I did it without any pain relief or gas and air. That part I do NOT recommend but other than that it was ok. Good luck!

WTFUterus · 02/01/2022 21:08

How are getting on @eleanax ?
My waters were broken manually and then placed on the drip, I highly recommend having the epidural before the drip if you are planning on going down the epidural route.
Best of luck

Hope all's ok.

I was induced with both DC on due date so l wasn't ready to give birth really.

Waters were broken with both of then and had the syntocin drip.

Managed with gas and air plus TENS machine.

As soon as you feel a contraction start, take long deep breaths of the gas and keep going. I found it got me stoned enough to get through the peak

Had the balloon induction, got home and contractions started straight away, and I thought I was going to have to go back. Managed to fall asleep between one, woke up and they had gone.
Managed to get a full nights sleep, the balloon catheter is still in there, Iv had no contractions this morning. I'm back at the hospital at 12:15 to see where we go next. I feel like he's way too comfy Sad I'm definitely going to ask for the epidural I think. I'm not really thinking about the pain, I just want the cuddles

Balloon catheter induction? Not familiar with that. How does it work?

Muchmorethan · 03/01/2022 15:38

Just Googled. It sounds medieval!

BasiliskStare · 03/01/2022 15:49

@eleanax I had an induction ( drip - not balloon thing - not heard of that before ) - because of reasons - yes it came on very quickly after that - but I waited a while and then had epidural - this was a while ago so no advice about Covid but if doctors recommend induction ( as they did with me) I would just go with it - Ds is post university now & healthy and never once have I worried about about starting naturally - there is just one job - to get the baby born. As with @inthesky42 - I ended up with EMCS - but all is fine now - I never worry about it. Thank goodness for modern medicine Best wishes for the cuddles Flowers

After taking the catheter out, my cervix was still high up and couldn't break my waters and was only 1cm dilated. Iv been given prostaglandin to hopefully soften cervix and start contractions, fingers crossed. I'll be reviewed again at 8:30 to see if they can break my waters, if not another prostaglandin tablet and a review 6 hours later. Fingers crossed he makes an appearance soon and doesn't keep us waiting too long Grin

Yes. For me the contractions built up way too fast once the drip started and I panicked as I couldn't keep on top of them with gas and air. I screamed for epidural which luckily did materialise quickly. I thought I was tough enough but I def wasn't. I'll never be induced again as will opt for an elcs, since my induction ended in emcs anyway, but if I was I would get the epidural before the drip as pp have said. There are others that did manage though so you might be lucky. All the best

1moretry · 04/01/2022 22:31

How're things op?
Hope you have your baby now.

eleanax · 09/01/2022 22:27

Sorry for the delay!
Little man was born on the 5th weighing 7lb 7oz via emergency c section after his heart rate was dropping whilst having contractions. Whilst in theatre they discovered my placenta was breaking and was the reason for bleeding throughout the day (5th). (Which I had made them aware of, but they said it was my waters breaking, and a bloody show- I bled 3 times) I was 2cm dilated and by the time I got to theatre I was 4cm.
Slightly knarcked as I feel like the whole process of being induced and labour, was so mechanical. From being on the maternity ward, to labour ward and to the way it all works. I'd be lying if I said it hasn't put me off getting pregnant again, but little man is safe and well, and we are so happy Grin

Congratulations! How did unfind the balloon? Was it painful?

shoebag · 10/01/2022 22:45

Congratulations Thanks

Balloon didn't hurt, more uncomfortable than anything. You might think it hurts, but your about to go through childbirth, I only got to 4cm and that HURT
