Has anyone hurt their Coccyx while giving birth?

Had my baby boy yesterday.
I've had stitches, in a few places but they are fine and no bother.

My problem is my Coccyx is bloody killing! I can't sit down or if I do it's painful to try and stand up and relieve pressure from it.
I have to really pull myself up and with my contracting uterus to boot it takes everything I have to just stand up.

I'm taking Ibuprofen and Paracetamol and was wondering if there's anything else anyone has tried? Hot Baths? Freeze spray? It's really getting me down and I'm feeling abit useless!

Yes, I fractured mine Shock

You poor thing! I fractured mine too. So painful.

milleniumhandandprawn · 27/12/2021 21:34

I'm sure I did - there was a lot of other things going on though so I don't know for sure... it was agony to sit on hard chairs for a few months- possibly a year!

Congratulations on your new baby!!

MushMonster · 27/12/2021 21:35

No giving birth, and not the coccyx, but I did pull a tendon in the are once when I slipped over a boulder. It hurt when lying down, when sitting, when standing, when walking, when going upstairs.... all day long!
I can imagine the agony you are in, and just after giving birth! Handhold for you. I hope someone comes soon to give you some advice of how to deal with it.
And congratulations for your baby boy💐

They told me I’d fractured mine giving birth, after suffering for 4/5 months I went to an osteopath who popped it back into place. The relief was amazing and instant!

Etherealhedgehog · 27/12/2021 21:37

Yes - it was horrendous. I didn't even notice the pain from the stitches. And that was just bruising - not fractured thank god. I got one of those hot/cold gel packs and basically sat on that, warmed up. Plus painkillers. Good luck!

PollyBlue6 · 27/12/2021 21:37

It's horrible isn't it!?

The after pains are nothing compared to this. Ive got a midwife appointment tomorrow so will mention it to her. Just after something to ease the pain abit.
I didn't feel much yesterday but today it's feels like I've fallen arse first down a flight of stairs and hit every step!

Thank you, he's bloody beautiful and so worth it, just wish I could do anything that doesn't involve wincing in pain.

Kettle is boiling for a hot water bottle and if that fails will try an ice pack.

I hurt mine about 6 months ago (not giving birth though!) and the road to recovery has been long for me because every time I sat down for more than about an hour, it felt like I'd hurt it all over again.

Then I bought This cushion and honestly it was the best money I've ever spent.

DementedPanda · 27/12/2021 21:45

Yes , my second dc was back to back and 10 years on I still suffer with my back, sciatica pain is unreal.

FrangipanFlower · 27/12/2021 22:00

Try using a heat pad or hot water bottle, along with regular pain relief this eased the pain for me a little. It took about 3 weeks to heal but I felt intense pain in mine after birth, thought I had damaged it somehow.

Hibye23289 · 27/12/2021 22:04

Not the same I know but I remember how excruciating the pain was on my coccyx when giving birth shudder

Fairunibutterfly · 27/12/2021 22:09

Not when giving birth but when pregnant in third trimester I sneezed really hard and hurt my coccyx. Honestly, just a sneeze!

I used a cushion with a hole in the back to sit in to avoid pressure on the coccyx much like the one WorraLiberty shared. It was fine while sitting but I was in pain when getting up from sitting. I imagine it would be worse after you e just given birth. Mine did get better after a few weeks.

Congratulations and hope you’re better soon.

PositiveLife · 27/12/2021 22:10

Yes, mine was bloody awful after my first. Paracetamol and ibuprofen, not sitting for too long, one of those special cushions - all helped. No idea what fixed it but I woke up one day about 8 weeks in and the pain had just gone. I'm presuming it had somehow moved back in place (doctor thought it was just flipped out of place)

Nat6999 · 27/12/2021 22:12

Not giving birth but I fell & landed on mine & was in agony for a good 18 months.

maryberryslayers · 27/12/2021 22:21

Yes I fractured mine. Ask for dihydrocodeine and take it along with the paracetamol and ibuprofen. It will take the edge off enough to be able to sit comfortably and care for your baby. Not sure if you are breastfeeding but this is safe to take if so. I took it for 3 months and then I had manipulation and steroid injections to help the long term pain.
You can also get a special cushion called a 'wedge coccyx cushion' for £25 from argos which can be used in bed and on chairs.

NinaDefoe · 27/12/2021 22:27

Yes and even after 18 years I can’t bear to be touched or touch that area - it’s the most horrible feeling.
