Safe sleep help

Hi all!

My little girl is 5 weeks old and was breech so she likes being held really tight and close.
She wakes so many times in the night because of the Moses basket and/or the next to me crib being too big and she doesn't settle due to all the space! What can I do to make her feel snug which keeps in line with safe sleep?

Keeping her warm is also posing a problem, she's just over 8lb and the sleep sacs I have are only to be used when she's 9lb.. what can I do for warmth? Our bedroom is around 17-20 degrees x

Swaddle?

PinkWaferBiscuit · 18/12/2021 19:06

You need a grow snug sleeping bag they were amazing with DS who was only just over 6 pounds.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/12/2021 19:07

We used swaddle bags that held DD’s arms in and they worked really well. We used them from birth and she was less than 9lbs - we wouldn’t have used them against the weight advice so must have found suitable ones.

@PinkWaferBiscuit are those the tommee tippee ones? I've heard a couple of ladies mention that the neck was quite tight x

@SickAndTiredAgain she sleeps with her arms above her head so swaddling is a pain as she always pulls her arms out and kicks her legs 🙄

The ‘love to dream’ swaddle sacks are absolutely amazing. Cannot recommend enough. They keep their arms up as well as that’s babies natural sleep position. They can be used from 8lb.

With the swaddle bags, I don’t think they can get their arms out.
But of course nothing works for every baby. Would you consider co-sleeping? We did it when DD was slightly older (she was rolling so I think that makes the swaddle unsafe) but again, I know it’s not for everyone.

@Myleo
Ill definitely try those! They have great reviews x

@SickAndTiredAgain

I don't think I'd trust myself to co sleep and don't know much about it tbh but I would be open to it x

We had the gro Company ones. They were perfect and worked brilliantly for DS who was born in December. Smile

My little boy also uses the love to dream swaddle and loves it Smile.

De88 · 18/12/2021 20:18

Is she like this during the day too? Feeding and gaining weight well etc?

mooloop · 18/12/2021 20:47

My 5 week old DS uses the Love to Dream swaddle at night, he always has his hands up by his face too Smile

If you want to look at safe cosleeping have a read of the information from. The lullaby trust. Lots of mums do this but it important to follow the guidance. www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/
My breach baby used to sleep with legs sticking out. It was funny and thankful it was summer as a swaddle wouldn't have worked! We used a sleep suit, vest and blanket.

Fair enough, and actually I think when I did it it was over a few warmer months, so I could be in pyjamas and no duvet, and I think the guidance is to keep duvets away from the baby if co-sleeping. I’m not sure I’d have been able to do it in winter without getting cold.
