Positive induction stories needed!

Hi everyone. FTM here and although super smooth pregnancy baby is measuring on the slightly larger side so they want to induce me in a couple of weeks (I'll be 38+6).

All I hear is negative stories about induction and although I'm fully flexible and will be prepared for anything I want to at least go in with a positive mindset. Please can I have people's positive induction stories (essentially where it hasn't all gone t*ts up!). Many thanks :)

Nice guidelines state not to routinely offer inductions purely on baby’s estimated size. Make sure you are fully informed (not saying you aren’t - just I have been pushed into the induction funnel with my first and I wouldn’t do it again)

I thought I’d put the link just for info.

Although I wouldn’t be induced again I had a positive induction where I only needed the pessary to kick things off. Went home and waited for contractions to start. When they did I went back to hospital, my body did the rest, waters broke on their own and it was a 4 hour labour with just gas and air which was a wonder drug. I was 42 weeks at the time, so very ready 😂
Physically the best thing I’ve ever done in my whole life, was such a high.

Good luck and congratulations

Thank you :) it's so difficult to know what to do. All my scans and fundal height measurements have been all over the place so it's so difficult!

Will continue researching options before a firm decision is made, but thank you for sharing that yours went okay!

I’ve had 3 very positive inductions. Forts was just because I was 42 weeks. Got Labour started pretty quickly. Took a few hours and baby was back to back so contractions were crazy painful with the drip but after the epidural was a breeze loved it. I didn’t have any medical intervention (forcepts etc) and also didn’t tear at all.

Ds2 and DD were both induced at at 37.5 due to complications. (Placenta failure and other things) Again two really positive inductions. Both were much faster Ds2 was our in 4 pushes and dd in 2 pushes. Again no need for any medical intervention or any damage to me.

I also had very lovely midwives with all my inductions. Very helpful and chatty. They also were very good at talking to me about why was happening and answering questions.

My first induction was such a positive experience I was set on having an induction again with Ds although originally I was expecting to get to 40 weeks.

Positive one here! I was 40 weeks (also due to increased size). Only needed the pessary, they broke my waters and he arrived 4 hours later, no pain relief and 10mins of pushing. Midwives were lovely, I was walking around until the last 10mins.

You don’t need to be lying down to be monitored they can use non wired monitoring systems but I did have to ask for them so I could then move and use the birthing ball etc. So if that’s something you want don’t be afraid to ask.

Thank you both, it really helps :)

My induction was fine, I had heard it makes you feel queasy but I felt fine, I had it first thing in morning when I arrived to hospital, read some mags, went for a walk, had a sleep, sent my DH home for bit as he was annoying me, read a bit more, walked up and down the stairs to move it along, and then went into labour at 6pm - 2 hours later my lovely two twin girls were born. I slept through most of my labour as had epidural- epidurals are ace. Good luck xx

I've had two really positive inductions. First was a pessary which took about 12 hours to work but contractions started about lunch time and got a bit worse through the day (staying active and going for walks helped) but nothing crazy. Things ramped up about 10:30pm and contractions were very intense but I only measured 3cm still at 12:30am. I went from 3cm to 10cm in about an hour though and had her after about 5 pushes.

Second induction was just having waters broken as I was 42 weeks and 4 sweeps had got me to 3cm. Labour was 1 hour 12 mins after that Shock again with not much pushing.

Both times I had a 2nd degree tear but had no idea it had happened and actually enjoyed being stitched up as I got to have the gas and air without being in labour!

Gas and air is an absolute god send and I've heard lots of people say to get an epidural if you need the oxytocin drip.

If I had a 3rd (doubtful) I would rather be induced - you don't have to play the 'when do I go into hospital' game and you can get your stuff ready calmly. Good luck!!!

All of my three births were induced at 42 weeks so I just don’t know any different. They were all different but the induction side of things was fine.

I was induced a couple of weeks ago and while my induction was due to an emergency situation, it wasnt the worst experience.
I faced an early induction due to pre-eclampsia so knew there may be some complicatiins along the way (didnt know what as wasnt really made aware other than it could be a slightly quicker birth).

I opted for the pessary rather than the rods and was told it has to remain in place for a full 24hours and it could take up to 3 days for established labour/birth.
Pessary was inserted at 1.30am. I had to remain in hospital throughout as I was deemed high risk.
By 6.30am i had period cramps and thought nothing of it.
By 7am i was in agony with the 'cramps', which were actually contractions, coming one after the other with zero gap between.
By 7.30am my waters broke spontaneously.
Midwife didnt believe i was in as mhch pain as I was and offered paracetamol only! I begged to be examined and they found I was already 5cms dilated and rushed me to delivery as an urgent case.
By the time they wheeled me round the corner i was ready to push but they werent ready for me!!!

Baby was born just under 1hour later.
The labour lasted less than 2 hours from the first contraction.
I needed an episiotomy because babys heart rate dropped suddenly but that is healing ok.
I also needed other medical intervention which was unrelated to the induction but due to having pre-eclampsia.

Overall the induction could have been worse.
I laboured quickly, again due to pre-eclampsia. The contractions were back to back and ive never felt pain like it, BUT, i survived on just gas and air, which is bloody amazing ill add.
If I had to be induced again i wouldnt be afraid of it.
Just make sure you speak to your midwife and discuss all of your options and then youll feel more comfortable.
The end result is pretty awesome though and any issues you have along the way will be forgotten about quickly or not seem to matter.

I was induced with my first. Went into hospital at 3pm Monday. I was already experiencing some cramping so they didn't bother with a pessary. Instead they gave me a sweep. Throughout the night I started contracting but was only 2cms by the next morning. I had my waters broken around 10am and was hooked up to a drip to speed up contractions around 1pm. I stubbornly refused an epidural and just had a pethidine injection and paracetamol. The drip i found was very painful and is like back to back contractions with not much of a break but I managed. My DD was born just after 5pm, no complications during birth and I had a vaginal birth. I did unfortunately have a bad tear and needed to be taken into surgery after birth for repair but healed fine. Overall I would say my induction was a positive one but very tiring as it seemed like forever waiting for baby but well worth it in the end.

Good luck with everything.

Thanks everyone :) I've managed to get another scan the day before to make sure induction is the right course of action, but if it is you've all helped with the nerves
