Twins - vaginal delivery, tell me your stories!

Hello!

I've got to decide next week (unless it's decided for me) whether to give birth naturally or opt for a c-section.

Unsure about a natural delivery for twins, I heard they have to hold your stomach after twin 1 is out to stop Second turning / or often turn second baby by hand and all sorts! Seems like twin birth could be quite medicated / lots of people in the room etc?

Forceps and lots of perineal damage after DD1 leading to permanent numbness (she was back to back) so nervous about doing more damage on top of what I've already endured!

My twins were prem and were born quickly 9 minutes apart with no pain relief at all, I don't remember my stomach being pressed on at all but twin 2 was breech so did have to get wiggled round. The birth itself was actually easier than my singleton birth 4 years earlier.

I'm going to have a section, but I had to have An emcs before so feel damage is done in one area and not the other! But I get why you don't want to damage further down there... my emcs was great, it wasn't a very urgent emergency. Personally with a tiwin birth and having a toddler to look after too I want max predictability and fewest variables, which is why I'm going section.

My twins were induced at 36 weeks with a pessary. It was just me dh, midwife and a student doctor (I was asked) for most of it. I had an epidural. At the birth lots of medics popped in, DTD 1 born, they tried to turn DTD2 failed. I remember the bloke being told to step back by the head consultant and DTD2 was delivered breech. Then they all vanished again. Only there for about 20 minutes or so. 12 minutes between the girls.

I chose vaginal birth as I had older children (4 and 2 at the time) and I knew I had to be up sooner rather than later.

A close relative of mine had a vaginal twin birth at 35+6, no gas and air or drugs as she doesn't do well with meds.

5 hour labour, 22 minutes between T1 and T2 and ended up with 1 precautionary stitch!

T2 had to be turned as they were transverse but otherwise all was fine.

Watching with interest.

SIL had a vaginal twin birth with no complications. Girls born 20 mins apart, approx 24hours after pessary induction at 37 weeks. She said the epidural was great for the manoeuvring of twin 2. Good luck! Smile
