Anyone had experience of this ? I myself was born at term plus 19 days

Hospital (senior registrar) fine with going to 43 weeks then will see consultant(have given me the royal college figures on the increased but tiny risk after 42 weeks). Going in daily for monitoring but would love to hear from other postdates mums for support.

Midwife supervisors supportive but community midwives edgy (home birth, fingers crossed)- they keep talking about other risks but not giving me any evidence based info. Told I had to be induced at first (had to find out alternative for myself - RCOG and NICE guidelines) also not good experince with doctors before seeing senior. One was talking about increased stillbirth after 42 weeks, I asked him what the increase was because we wanted to make an informed choice - he said "er well that's an exam question" !!!!!
another asked me if I had any history of mental problems !

try to stay upright as much as you can ,especially if you are contracting, get the baby down as far as possible onto the cervix... posterior babies do put pressure on the cervix just not equal pressure, so might take a bit longer to get going, and could well turn once labour is established. you might want to avoid ARM as once the waters have gone, it is harder for baby to turn. and avoid labouring on your back as far as is possible

best of luck

just to let you know i went 19 days with my first 10 days second and lastly 23 days with my recent baby..i had all the scaremongereing tactics but went in to see consultants with attitude..i ve heard it all before!!! and thank you but im sticking to my guns ..planned homebirth and midwives were brilliant at supporting my choice and forewarned consultants of my choice!! unfortunately though i ended up being induced in hospital aggghhh as my waters had broken and it was over 30 hrs previously , somehow i ended up getting an infection so had to be on AB`S intraveneously so baby would be protected...what a pain after my initial homebirth ideas but i would have hung on if it hadnt been for the infection..theres a time when you have to agree with medical help but im normally a person that steeers clear of medical people big time!!! so hang in there baby will come when ready.some moms just take a little longer..my arguement was thats its hereditary!! like i said my other two were late i was 12 days late my brother 19 days late and my nephews and neice were all around two to three weeks late and when i asked whether there as research into this they said no because there wouldnt be enough numbers to do research as not many mothers would wait that long!!!wonder why!!

Had a busy 9 days or so !

We went to see a great consultant on wednesday 19th (the day after my last message). Instead of the usual "induce because it is policy" and scare tactics without giving us the evidence she said that if baby had plenty of amniotic fluid and the monitoring showed good signs then it was our decision. After this she did a scan and it showed that although baby had a full bladder (which was a good sign) the fluid had decreased. Therefore she said that there was a clear reason for induction.

Lottie was born late the following day as I had to be chemically induced on the thursday foloowing a pessary on the wednesday. She is fit and healthy and showed no signs of post maturity such as fused head, too big shoulders, or being too big (7lb 12 oz) etc etc.

I think I did the right thing to wait for me and Lottie as my body had a chance to get more ready to give birth vaginally (which is what was really important to me for us both to experience).

I have learnt a lot from this experience about standing my ground and would like to say that although I did want a home birth the care that I received in hospital from midwives and doctors on labour ward were fantastic and they kept me informed of everything.

Thanks so much for all the support and bunny baby - imagine you are very busy with a newborn too!

Just wanted to add I was 15 days late - had induction and really wasn't that bad. Birth was still a very positive incredible experience.
No idea what would have been like without induction....
But Good luck whatever happens!
