Breech

Hi guys. I’m coming up for 36 weeks pregnant and my baby is breech. Any experiences x

Both my DC were breech, and totally wedged in the breech position - my ribs have never been the same since!
I was booked in for ELCSs but went into labour early both times. Ended up having EMCSs but all fine and I was home quickly with both. I had DC1 early on a Saturday morning and was home tea time Sunday, had DC2 just after midnight on Tuesday morning and was home Wednesday teatime.
I refused to have either of them turned, I just said I had done my research and did not feel comfortable with the procedure.
My oldest took a couple of days to lower his legs- he kept bringing them to his ears!
My ribs have stretched out on one side due to the position they were both in, so I have to wear bras a larger band size now, a size larger than I actually measure, or I am in agony.

Welshponyslave · 21/11/2021 07:34

Oh just to add, with both labours my waters went and I had contractions back to back but never got beyond 1cm dilated which was distressing. I was hallucinating with the pain and was in a bit of a state with DC2. Apparently your body can go into panic mode with a breech baby as the baby’s bum isn’t as heavy as the head and the body struggles to get baby down the birth canal- hence the constant contractions.
Sorry to give you the bad side as well.

loudsoph98 · 21/11/2021 08:17

Unfortunately I’ve started googling why are babies in the breech position. Wish I’d never done it 😩😩

OP posts:
Welshponyslave · 21/11/2021 08:38

Oh I didn’t google that!
I have a tilted pelvis so I figured that was why mine were breech

WheelieBinPrincess · 21/11/2021 08:39

Honestly it’s most likely totally fine! I had a breech in September. I too did my research on the turning and said no. Had a very smooth ELCS at 39 weeks and a good recovery. Baby has had his hip scan and all fine.

Used to annoy me when people said ‘oh he’ll turn!’ I thought, he bloody won’t! Not in the position I could feel he was in. Feeling his head turning right up in my ribs was a very odd sensation indeed. But he’s here now and it’s all totally fine, don’t worry.

Mine was breech. I didn't have the experience of @Welshponyslave. It was slow and very tiring. I had gas to breathe in which helped calm me during the contractions. Also all the breathing skills I'd learnt during the pre-labour classes made a big difference. And the birth went well. It was wonderful to meet my beautiful baby after who did kick a lot in the first few months. I've since wondered if that was due to the breech position.
All the best to you and your baby @loudsoph98

Flutterby8 · 21/11/2021 18:24

Up until 36 weeks baby was breech for me too. Midwives sent me for a scan a week later (36+5) and they found baby was head down.
I didnt feel her move positions at all and honestly didnt think she would because there isnt alot of room in there due to my build.
There is hope though. I was breech when born and my mum didnt have an awful labour with me (which i know isnt that helpful).

loudsoph98 · 21/11/2021 21:50

@WheelieBinPrincess Yes I have researched the turning and spoken to a lot of people. And the majority have said to me they wouldn’t recommend it. And to be honest the thought of having my boy turned makes me feel funny 😭😭

OP posts:
loudsoph98 · 21/11/2021 21:53

@Flutterby8 I’m a small built person so my body has found it a real struggle adjusting to being pregnant and I think part of the problem is he hasn’t got much room. I feel him kick low aswell and that’s how I knew he was breech.

OP posts:
Flutterby8 · 21/11/2021 22:08

@loudsoph98 have you had anyone confirm your baby is breech at all?
Midwife will send you for a scan at some point soon to confirm if they are thinking breech presentation. Before I had my scan I had lots of movements low down and didn't consider a breech baby.
I had these feelings when I was having my scan and could see that it was her hands waving about frantically and poking me in places she shouldn't!
I have movements higher up near my ribs which I still feel could be more like a head bobbing about because it doesn't feel like kicks at all.
Hang in there, if your baby is breech there is still a chance of them turning. Don't panic just yet (it's hard not to believe me!).

My dd was breech. Had a failed ecv, which was fine. Doctor managed to turn her about 5 degrees then she just pinged straight back so he gave up and there was no pressure to continue. I've discovered after 4 years of ttc for dc2 that I had a big adhesion in the top side of my uterus, so that's why she was stuck. C-section was nice.

labyrinth · 21/11/2021 22:18

I had an undiagnosed vaginal breech delivery with DD. Tough going as she was also back to back and got stuck in the birth canal so needed episiotomy and forceps but she made it OK.
DS was also breech until 36 weeks. I turned him myself lying upside down on my ironing board on my sofa and lying in a warm bath with a bag of frozen peas on the top of my bump.
I did not want a section so tried everything I could to turn him. I'd have done another breech delivery given the choice if he hadn't turned

loudsoph98 · 21/11/2021 22:48

@Flutterby8 Yes he’s been breech in my last 2 appointments with my Midwife. So the first time she felt him and he was breech I wasn’t shocked as I had a feeling his head was under my ribs. Most recent appointment he was still breech and obviously knew this was the case as I recognise what breech feels like now. My next appointment is this Wednesday coming up and Midwife said if he’s still breech she’ll send me for a scan.

The heartburn aswell is awful 😭😭 Just wanna meet him now. I feel bad cos I think oh my gosh he’s running out of room!!

@loudsoph98 hopefully by the the time you have the scan things may have changed. Between finding out baby was breech and having a scan i tried crawling about on all fours and laying with my legs on the sofa and head on the floor.
As i mentioned before, i didnt feel baby turn at all so dont know if any of this even helped but i tried anyway 😂
I will be honest, i had 3 mkdwives check me over at one of my apppintments and none of them were confident on babys positioning, hence sending me for the scan.
Are you measuring big as well as ypu mention youre of a small build?
Ive been measuring 1-2 weeks ahead but the growth scan had me bang in the middle. Although i know none of these methods are 100% accurate.

loudsoph98 · 22/11/2021 04:54

When my Midwife is feeling his positioning she seems confident. She has a feel and goes “Yep definitely a head up there” Unfortunately I’ve scared myself reading a few bits on google 😭😭 I’m just going to stick to Mumsnet now as I find it really helpful and honest. Midwife tested me for gestational diabetes as he was “Measuring just slightly bigger on the growth chart” But fingers crossed I haven’t heard any more about having it.

@loudsoph98 i still have one midwife who is convonced baby is breech as there is such a firm lump under my ribs which can easily be taken to be a head its that solid. Scan proved otherwise though.
Ive stopped reading through google now as all i have done is terrify myself.
I dont fancy the idea of birth at all but some of the things ive seen on google have put me off. Im sticking with a good book fow now 😂

loudsoph98 · 22/11/2021 09:45

@Flutterby8 Oh so you haven’t got a head under your ribs. It’s just I feel my boy pushing up and kicking low. Feels like he’s kicking my cervicks 😭😭

OP posts:
Flutterby8 · 22/11/2021 09:56

@loudsoph98 nope, head is definitely down and engaged.
The hard lump under my ribs is baby's butt but in all honesty, it can easily be mistaken for a head as its so damn solid. You can even see a very pronounced extra bump on top of my bump where it is. Hence everyone has been convinced its a head!
It will move side to side and I'll get ripples across my upper abdomen like a head moving about but it's not.
I'm also getting sharp pains in my cervix which often take my breath away. That is apparently baby's hands and head pushing.
I think you really need a scan to confirm which way your baby is. You could be surprised (like I was).

loudsoph98 · 22/11/2021 10:21

@Flutterby8 Hopefully I’ll be given a scan on Wednesday to confirm his position.
