C section hospital bag

Hi,

Going in for a c section in over 2 weeks time and sorting my hospital bag.

Will a pack of 22 nappies be enough? Hoping to be out in 24 hours.

Was also thinking 3 vests, 3 sleepsuits, 2 hats (warmer one for coming home in), a blanket, a pair of scratch mits, a cardigan and a few muslins.

Thanks!

Yes I would think that would be plenty. Don't forget big pants and trousers without a digging in waistband for you.

Hi yes sounds fine I would have a bag of top ups in the car that can be bought into you just in case they.keep you in longer. My c section was later in the day so they kept my in a second night . Big pants that come up to the waist are a must and I took a maxi dress as well so I could move around with catheter in .

Hey Smile Thank you!

I’ve got a few night dresses as I find them comfier.

Partners can stay 24/7 and you get a private room as standard afterwards (Arrowe Park, all private rooms) so I’ll keep a bag of top ups in my partners car just incase. Good idea, thanks! Smile

Pack your own paracetamol and ibuprofen as well. The med rounds take ages and you don't want to be in pain waiting (speaking from bitter experience here). If they let you, take control of your own pain relief. I had a notebook and pen to write down what I took when, alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol so I was never without something. Much better than waiting for 1 nurse doing the whole ward. Also, get a long phone charger so you don't need to stretch round if it's on charge

Following as have elcs in 8 weeks.

I read a good tip somewhere - a little pouch with some change in it for the vending machine, in case the shops shut and frankly a yorkie from a vending machine would hit the spot.

Intravenous paracetamol is so much more effective though. If you take it yourself, they won’t be able to give you an IV.

22 nappies should be plenty. I just had one in August, I took wayyy too much stuff. I was out in 23 hours I think. I had vests and sleepsuits in a variety of sizes. He was over 8lb surprisingly but he still fit in the next sleepsuits that were up to 7.8lbs. They were big on him for the first week until he started to stretch out. I think he wore the sleepsuit I put on him when he was born until the following morning then I put a new one on then put his going home outfit on as we were leaving. I’d say try and just get the ones with the built in mitts and you won’t have to faff about getting mitts, socks etc out your bag

Sorry I meant post op, not pre op! I wasn't given any painkillers IV once I left the operating theatre, that may just be my experience in an understaffed NHS ward though

Peppermint tea or chewing gum, my midwife said it's a must have as the trapped wind can be a real pain. Literally.

The obvious ones like breast pads and maternity towels (or disposable underwear)

Somebody also suggested I take my dressing gown cord to tie to the end of the bed to help me hoist myself up as it'll be uncomfortable on the stomach getting up and down.

Good luck! I have mine on Tuesday Smile
