Queen Charlotte's private rooms

Has anyone stayed at the queen Charlotte after birth and can tell me what the rooms are like. Can't have tours atm.

Are the beds for partners just couches or chairs or do they have proper beds?

I've not been there but I'm a bit surprised that you haven't been given this kind of information. Don't they have some kind of virtual tour ?

cultkid · 17/10/2021 16:36

Hey I think it's like a large single bed

I also saw your post about the hospital you shouldn't need 4 nights there btw, just one I would say should be fine

Call them and ask

Bells3032 · 17/10/2021 17:53

@cultkid thank you. I'm going by what the obstrician told me. She said about 2 days for vaginal and 4-5 for a c section. Obc that's private only. NHS just chuck you out ASAP.

Sadly no tours and they don't have a virtual tour either

My friends who have had private c sections have honestly been in for one maybe two nights max! Even at a private hospital you'll want to get home trust me!

Bells3032 · 17/10/2021 19:51

Maybe she meant to budget for thst in case any complication

She could well have done Smile

I would say so, I use private hospitals a lot and they are little bastards about "budgets" it's like listen I've told you I'm using the service I'll pay the bill stop being so rude!! They act like you can't pay the bill Hmm one night maybe 2 but certainly not 4 you will be desperate to get back home trust me

With regards to how long you want to stay, it really is a personal decision. Thank about where you would be most comfortable. I hated being in hospital after birth, I like my own bed, pillow and shower, so had home births after no.1 but a friend loved it and paid for a week with all 4 so she knew she would get the rest she needed and wanted. They never tried to kick her out.

HelloDulling · 17/10/2021 20:28

With both of my DC I had to stay in for three nights. If you’re lucky, a night or two and you’ll be home.

LakeShoreD · 17/10/2021 20:32

I’ve had 2 private sections at C&W and with my first I stayed 3 nights as I just did what I was told. With my second they pressured again for 3 nights but I insisted on 2. I can’t imagine why you’d need to stay any more than 3 nights unless there are major complications. It was comfortable for a hospital but still very much a hospital so I was so pleased to get home. As for beds for partners - ask your OB! They see the rooms all the time so they’ll know exactly what the facilities are. That said, I’d be very surprised if partners don’t get a single bed, that’s standard for private care isn’t it?

My DCousin was exactly like this. She said it was the only time that her baby felt like it was just hers. DA was fairly overbearing though!

LadyHalesBroach · 17/10/2021 20:41

Hi OP, do you mean the single rooms on the normal postnatal ward? Rather than ‘private healthcare’ kind of private?

If so, yes, I had one. It was £80 and DH signed a form whilst I was in labour - make it really really known that you want one and you get put on a list. It isn’t guaranteed though and if another mum needs it more than you, they’ll get it.

It’s a very basic room, single bed for you and a chair for partner. Ensuite bathroom. No tv.

LadyHalesBroach · 17/10/2021 20:42

This was at QC 4 years ago mind… things might have changed. And it was after delivering on labour ward.

Bells3032 · 17/10/2021 21:26

@LadyHalesBroach no the rooms when you're going completely privately. I don't think the NHS ones aren't available anymore as they're kept for covid patients anyway

@Bells3032 Not sure if this is still relevant, but I'm going private at QCCH with Tom Prior, and my midwife appointments have been in the private ward rooms directly. The rooms are about 4m x 3m (don't quote me, not an architect Grin ), with a large single hospital bed for you, and a single pull out couch for DP. There's also another chair, a small wardrobe, a countertop with space under for luggage and a wonderful view of the Wormwood Scrubs prison out the window Grin. Some of the rooms are slightly smaller due to odd angles, so ask if you can be assigned one of the slightly bigger rooms. The extra 1-2sqm makes a difference for DP esp!

@CityGirlintheCountry thank you. My little one arrived 6 weeks early and we never made it to qc!! She's doing super well though thankfully :)
