Low lying placenta - Anterior and Posterior!

Hi,

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with a low lying placenta that is both anterior and posterior.

I was scheduled for a CS next week as they thought i had Vasa Praevia. I was asked to come in again as the consultants were not in agreement that it was... I've now been scanned again and told that they do not suspect Vasa praevia (phew!) However, anterior portion of placenta is 3cm from internal OS and the posterior portion is 1.7 cm from internal OS.

I've been told to act as everything is normal and will have a scan at 38 weeks. However, after all of the panic with the vasa praevia concerns and the CS that was supposed to be next week.. im terrified. I can't find much info on it, but not to scan me from now until 38 weeks seems to be an unnecessary risk? She's plotting on the lower line also.

Has anyone got any past experience with low lying placenta? did you get more scans towards the later stages of your pregnancy?

Yes I had low lying placenta that moved just enough to get out of the way of the OS at a scan I had around 34 weeks. It was never mentioned again - once it's moved away it doesn't go down again or anything so that was that!

@SmellyOldOwls - do you recall how far from OS you were at 34 weeks? The cord is apparently close to cervix also so been told that could also be an issue..

Mine was 1.6cm away at 32 weeks, but 3cm away at 36 weeks. I just focused on getting baby down and had some chiropractic sessions. There’s no concrete evidence on chiropractic for low lying placenta, but my chiro said that she knew a few women who had big movement of the placenta after chiro. From the research and reading I did, average movement is around 2mm per week between 32 and 38 weeks.

I think it was 1.5cm but couldn't say for sure. My baby was transverse too so there was a risk of prolapse, it takes nerves of steel to get through the third trimester but honestly if the consultant isn't worried, you don't need to be worried.

Mine was close at 24 weeks and still close at 28 when we went for a growth scan. I think it was 12mm away and is supposed to be 20mm? By 34 weeks when we had the scan especially for the low placenta they said it had moved ‘enough’, no further details. I was anxious about giving birth anyway so had requested a section whether it moved or not and I have a lovely experience 😊 I would do it again in a heartbeat

As others have said if they’re not worried it sounds like you’re okay! But as with anything, challenge them on it or phone up if something doesn’t feel right to you
