in early labour and it BLOODY HURTS!

Went for my 1st clary sage bath last night at 8.30pm - 1st contraction at 9.30pm!

10 mins apart till 2.30am, then 5 mins apart ever since. Have been into labour ward, head is down but I was only 1-2cm so they said we could come home - that was at 8am and don't feel like I've made any progress! Bouncing on ball, TENS on, please tell this baby to HURRY UP!

Had a show too but no waters yet...

Any advice? Been for a bath, 2 actually, bouncing on ball...starting to feel despondant...

Oh, good luck, keep doing what you're doing (I was like this with DS1), you're almost there!

minspugs · 08/12/2007 15:18

ah hun, i have long pre labours and its a bugger. if you were 2 cm at 8 am though your proberbly dialated enough to be admited by now (most hospitals say 3 cm is established labour, with my 2nd dd i was the same, went in at 7.30 am only 2cm, went back at 3 pm thinking i wasnt much futher on and was 5cm. baby born less then 2 hrs later. if you feel like you need more pain killers then go in or ring. i ouldnt worry about waters not breaking yet, they dont always go until later on. mine never went till i was in transition. good luck

LoveMyGirls · 08/12/2007 15:19

Any chance of a little sleep?

claraquitemassivenow · 08/12/2007 15:20

Oh good luck Caz - no advice, I am sure you're doing everything right (I would say go for a walk but if the weather where you are is anything like it is here, maybe not..), hopefully everything will start properly for you soon.

belgo · 08/12/2007 15:21

or read a book, watch a DVD, i knwo someone who went to the haridressers at this stage (quite how she kept still in the chair i don't know!)

good luck!

Lizzylou · 08/12/2007 15:24

With both boys I had to have my waters broken, so don't wait for that.
I'd agree that if it's too much pain/discomfort for you then getting to the hospital is a good idea.

Caz10 · 08/12/2007 15:30

Thanks all. DH in shower, will probably head back in soon...

Can anyone tell me why I do a massive burp after every contraction?!

Like the sound of being 5cm by now - wish I could tell by myself!

I went from 1cm to 10cm in about 15 minutes so hang in there.

Niecie · 08/12/2007 16:35

Definitely don't rely on waters breaking. Mine went 20 minutes before DS2 was born. I understand it is common for them to go at the start of the second stage when you are ready to push.

I bet you are at least 4cm maybe even more by now.

Good luck - keep upright, keep bouncing and it will be all over soon!

POOKAingwenceslaslookedout · 08/12/2007 16:36

My waters didn't break first time until started pushing. With ds (second time) they didn't break at all (until his head was out).

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/12/2007 16:48

Yes, don't hang out for your water to break as a sign!
DS1s went in the final hour just before the pushing stage and DS2s DIDNT go at all - He was born still inside his ammnion!
Very lucky apparently!

OhGiveUsAPruniPudding · 08/12/2007 16:52

Aw Caz don't get despondent
Some women just take longer and there's no rhyme or reason to it, unfortunately...
have you tried nipple stimulation to get the contractions really going?
Try not to think of it as 2cm in x number of hours therefore 4cm in the same number of hours - you can dilate a lot more quickly the further on you get, so you might not be as long as you estimate!
Also waters not breaking might be a sign that the baby is an a good position - and then they will go just as you get into second stage and Whoom! I bet.
Hope the shower worked to ease things a bit.

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 08/12/2007 16:53

Walk up[ the stairs sideways.

This he;lped mt frined along appaerntly

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/12/2007 16:58

With DS1, my contractions started on Thursday and DS was bornt he following Sunday.
Take some paracetamol and try and get as much sleep as you can.
That's what I was advised to do.
It is really crap and I do know exactly how you feel. I was told I was only 4 cm dialated and I was like erm, no, I can't be, check again!
Try not to get dispondent. Postitive thinking like every contraction you get brings you nearer etc helped me thru.

belgo · 08/12/2007 17:20

caz - don't be despondant if you are less dilated then you hope - all these contractions will be doing a great job of preparing the cervix and the position of the baby. Some women do all the dilation at the end of labour.

skidaddle · 08/12/2007 21:00

Caz - I'm sure you are at the hospital now and may even have had your baby but just wanted to wish you the best of luck and hope the rest of your labour goes well - sounds like you are coping really well, especially as you've had no sleep - can't wait to hear your birth story and see some pics xx

Santasmissyontheside · 08/12/2007 21:03

sounds like my labour days 12 weeks ago! i was bouncing on ball and moving around lots. i was tired but it got my labour going. also try not to think of time! relax don't tense and just concentrate on breathing. GOOD LUCK
