What time do you go to hospital with an ELCS?

Hello,

Waiting for more information after booking my ELCS but want to get ahead and plan childcare etc.

What time do they generally ask you to go to hospital the morning of the section? I’ve heard various times so maybe each hospital does it differently but I’d appreciate any insight.

Thanks

I was in at 7am both times. First one was born at about 5pm and the second one about 2:30pm.

The other thing to consider is if you're ELCS (like say for a breech baby or something not as urgent) you can get to mid-afternoon and be told to come back next day if more urgent cases take priority.

Thanks everyone!
Fingers crossed for a morning slot and a quick trip into surgery otherwise I’ll be super grumpy with no food and minimal water.

Hope all your sections went well. Hoping for another speedy recovery here.

1st one I had to be there 7am, had a morning slot.
2nd I was booked for afternoon slot so told to go for 9:30. I went in to labour the day before though so had a late night cat3 cs instead. I hadn't eaten since the day before so was all good for surgery.

8am. No food from 2am. I don't remember about water.

They only do 1 or 2 sections a day (1 morning and 1 afternoon if needed). I arrived, they popped me in a room with a bed, and marr my husband a cuppa. Then dr and anesthetist etc came to visit sequentially, and I went down about 10, and baby was born about half past. I was on the ward by midday.

The second time was the same, but i had yo wait an hour as there was someone in labour whose baby needed to be born first (in case they needed the theatre).

It wad efficient and lovely tbh

I had to be in by 7 am for the morning session, 10 am if I would be the afternoon one.
The hospital has a separate theatre for emergencies so in theory there should be no delay. I was third (last) on the morning list and the two sections before me took a bit longer so my baby was born at 3pm.
I was starving by that time:)

In for 7am baby born at 12.35

ohfook · 29/09/2021 19:05

7 or 11 at mine too.

You should be allowed sips of water until you go got theatre now. If you’re not ask why they’re not following fasting guidelines. Nil by mouth from midnight is very old fashioned.

onevision · 29/09/2021 21:26

Depends on the needs of the others on the list. I was one of four who came in at 7am and one was a type 1 diabetic lady so she went first. I went second and baby was delivered at 10.30.

Think now it's no food after midnight but you can drink plain water or squash until 6am.

mynameisbrian · 29/09/2021 21:29

Aim to get their earlier than they suggest as your more likely to go first as long as their are no emergencies

SubParbanMum · 29/09/2021 22:05

Thanks @Cyclingforcake that’s good advice.

Thank you everyone! This has been really helpful. Hoping for an early slot so I have time to recover and get out ASAP. I was lucky (?) that my emcs happened at 10am and I only stayed in for one night.
