3rd baby vbac

After 2 emc I'm going for a vbac and it's starting to sink in that this baby has to come out one way or the other. The thought of another section terrifies me. I never felt anxious with either of my children about giving birth, I just sort of went with it but this one I think about it 24/7.

shas haven't got any experience of VBAC sorry. When is the baby due? Thanks

ThisOneNow · 19/09/2021 09:03

I had a very positive vbac experience, despite DC being huge and induced because he was late. I went in thinking that even if I ended up with a C-section I would be glad that I tried for a vbac. Good luck!

January! I tried for a vbac with my daughter but went in to labour at 36 weeks and she wasn't ready or in the right position, after 6 days emc was needed. I'm also worried that I won't make it past Christmas😂

Hi @shas19 did you really have to fight to get your consultant to agree to let you try a Vbac after 2 emsc? I’m in exactly the same position, terrified of another csection but I wasn’t given a choice, was just told it would be a scheduled csection and too risky to try a vbac. I’m scheduled to speak to my consultant again soon, interested to hear what yours said (I hope you don’t mind me asking?) part of me thinks just go for the cs, but there is a part of me that would like to try (even though natural labour has never happened yet)

PoolNooodle · 20/09/2021 10:35

I tried but it failed, they were very pushy with me to have a Vbac but I had only had one emcs at that time so maybe it makes a different with how many you’ve had, but no it didn’t work and ended with an emcs

LifesNotDoneYet · 20/09/2021 10:36

Gosh I'm interested you've gone for a vbac after two sections. That seems very brave to me.

I am due my 3rd section in the next few weeks and honestly never really considered vbac. I'm not relishing the thought of the 3rd section but I'd be too nervous to try for a natural delivery. I have to say my antenatal team seemed very board, probably a bit relieved, by my decision. They said it was hard to advise on the risks of a vbac after 2 sections because it is very unusual.

Good luck whatever happens Flowers

yippyyippy · 20/09/2021 10:45

@Mayneedanextraroom it’s your choice whether you agree to have an ELCS or not, they to have your permission for any procedure that happens to your body, you ‘let’ the doctor do things not the other way round.

Obviously you’ll be advised on what’s the safest thing to do (hopefully in an honest and balanced way) so I would listen to that, but ball is firmly in your court and you are the one who decides.

I am pregnant with my third and was aiming for a vba2c, unfortunately I have complete placenta previa so csection was the only safe option. But my midwife was very supportive of vba2c if I hadn't had this complication, until 28 weeks when it was diagnosed vba2c was the plan, she's a very experienced midwife who attends home births and high risk births. The hospital I'm with have excellent vbac rates because they don't ever induce after a csection, thats what can cause the issues with placental rupture etc rather than the vbac itself.

Mayneedanextraroom · 20/09/2021 11:08

Thanks @yippyyippy think I should have been a bit more assertive, I just had the same conversation with mw and consultant which was it would need to be a cs. I think risk wise it’s probably not worth it (I don’t ever progress) so think I’ve really answered my own question really 🙈 x

Not at all, midwife was suprised I wanted to try again but they've all been supportive. They can't tell you what to do the choice is yours. There's risks with both deliveries, go on fb if you have it and there's a group called vbac support UK. There's loads of info on there!

The risk of rupture is small, I think 1.36%? And each section is more risky than the last. I lost alot of blood with my daughter and want to avoid it at all costs if I can, especially as I have two other children to see to, I have q good gap between sections aswell so that makes me abit more confident! My hospital actually induced aswell after vbac2 but I'll be declining any intervention this time, hopefully all goes smoothly!

Thank you @shas19 I may check the fb group out x

I found this helpful when deciding whether to opt for an elective or a VBAC (I went elective in the end).

@shas19 don't let people on here put you off if your consultant is happy to let you try labour naturally then that's great they aren't going to do anything willingly that puts you or baby at risk. I am due a vbac after 1 section in 6 weeks ish it didn't cross my mind to have another section I hated the recovery after my emergency I am so hoping for a more positive experience this time but of course as long as babies and us are ok that's what matters at the end of the day. Lots of luck

mrssunshinexxx · 20/09/2021 14:33

@Garman my hospital won't induce after section either for a vbac I definitely think that's the right thing I wouldn't consent to induction even if they did if babies not ready to come on its own it's not going to end well IMO

Oh definitely not! I would never opt for a section either, it's absolutely last resort!

I looked into this after 2 EMCS. I met a lovely consultant who had herself done this. On balance I decided not to opt for it, there are certain risk factors which make VBAC more / less likely - and yours may be lower, but when my consultant explained that out of about ten attempts across his career none had been successful, I opted for a c section.

For me the idea of (another) labour (and labour under heavy monitoring which you have with a VBAC ) and then a csection was too much.

What I can tell you is that a planned section was a completely different and lovely, calm experience.

mrssunshinexxx · 20/09/2021 14:53

@shas19 me too! Has your hosptial got wireless monitoring? Mine has which I'm glad about as can still walk around go in the pool etc I went into labour naturally last time and dilated so I have 75% chance of a successful vbac which is the same as a first time mum so I'm keeping positive

Mayneedanextraroom · 20/09/2021 17:21

I really hope my comments didn’t come across that I was trying to put you off a vbac @shas19 that wasn’t my intention, I think it’s great you’re being supported with your decision and it’s given me something to think about so I actually appreciate your post Smile some good advice posted here which I have found very helpful too x

Monicatatie · 20/09/2021 22:06

I had a successful vbac with my third baby. First was vaginal birth and second c section due to being breech. My vbac was the easiest and quickest birth of them all. I exercised daily during my pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it helped baby be in the optimal position for birth, I didnt need to push, the contractions just expelled her. Theres a good group on Facebook, it's based in America but I've seen a lot of mums having successful vbacs after several c sections. You can do it 🤜🤛💪
