Hi
I'm 15 months post partum, but wondering if anyone else has experienced similar as the internet doesn't have a lot of information around long term effects of paralytic ileus.
I developed sepsis during labour, then had an emergency c sec due to failure to progress, baby distress and the sepsis. I was told that due to baby being lower in the birth canal than expected, they had to manhandle my bowels more than usual and this led to my bowels paralysing 24 hours later after vomiting dark green liquid litres at a time. I was also on oxygen at the time due to the sepsis, and had an NG tube down my throat to help drain my stomach.
Eventually it sorted itself in the way of me rather embarrassingly shitting myself in front of a midwife. 3 times in a row. So that was fun.
My main question is those that have had it, did you experience any long term effects? I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance about 10 years ago, although weirdly stopped during my pregnancy. However since the birth, I'm now reacting as though I've consumed dairy even when I haven't with incredibly painful cramps, loose if not liquid stools which can occur 4-5 times within a couple of hours. I can go a few days with regular, normal bowel movements and other times it can happen every day that week but usually only shortly after eating.
I'm not losing weight, or experiencing any other side effects but my lord, is the pain excruciating when an episode happens. Those who are lactose intolerant can probably sympathise, genuinely reminds me of the contractions during labour ðŸ˜
Just want an idea of if this might be related - not sure if an ileus can lead to other conditions like IBD, IBS or additional food intolerances. I feel my doctors have somewhat labelled me a hypochondriac as I do frequent the GP surgery a lot (I suspect I have PTSD from the birth trauma, however when referred for CBT they could only offer cbt for health anxiety so that's on my records now).
