I'm absolutely terrified..

I'm 36 weeks and have just been to hospital for an iron infusion. It was a disaster they got the wrong notes nearly giving me someone else's iron and I bled heavily when they inserted the cannula.
I also saw they have got rid of the lovely birthing suite I had DS1 in which had a radio, pool and a couple of beds it was so calming. Now it's just a clinical room with nothing else in it.
I had mum there last time which I can't this time due to COVID.
I'm also absolutely fucking terrified that I'll vomit. I'm so emetophobic I've really panicked myself about vomiting that I'm sat here crying.
I can't go through this. I'd rather die and escape my own body than have to go through it. I wish I never got pregnant.
Did you all vomit? How was your second labour?

I've never vomited in labour. Ask for an anti-sickness drug and explain your phobia. Good luck OP.

HumDumMum · 07/09/2021 10:39

@Iwantcauliflowercheese thank you. Were you not sick at all not even afterwards?

I had very bad sickness in pregnancy both times but didn’t vomit at all before, during or after labour - it’s definitely not a given

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 07/09/2021 10:45

I wasn't sick at all before, during or afterwards.

Knittingupastorm · 07/09/2021 10:51

I’m emetophobic and felt very nauseated during labour. But they gave me stemetil and it totally stopped it. You could let them know your fears and ask for some anti sickness if you start feeling rough?

Newmum29 · 07/09/2021 11:02

I didn’t vomit at all during pregnancy or labour and was scared the gas and air would trigger it but I didn’t even feel nauseous.

Horehound · 07/09/2021 11:05

I vomited once after being in labour for over 60 hours at that point and had been sooking on gas and air for 40+ hours. I also had an epidural so I don't know what made me sick but it really was so insignificant because I was still having contractions. I didn't think about it at all.
No one likes being sick

rosesandsalvia · 07/09/2021 11:07

I don't want to sound at all like I am dismissing your feelings, which are perfectly valid, but I also wanted to say that being anaemic can make you feel anxious & emotional. I also recently had a couple of iron infusions and have been very tearful & anxious about everything surrounding birth but a week after my second infusion and I'm feeling a lot more able to cope with life. Definitely talk to your midwives about your anxieties, they are there to help.

SylvanasWindrunner · 07/09/2021 11:25

I didn't feel sick at all in labour or during my emergency section or after. I wasn't sick during pregnancy either, although I did feel nauseous in first trimester but never to the extent I felt I would be sick at any point, just varying levels of queasiness.

Pootles34 · 07/09/2021 11:32

I had really bad sickness through my pregnancy, so they gave me some anti-emetics, which helped loads. Could you ask your doctor for one that you could just take at the start of labour? Even if they say no you could try a private dr, if you could afford that?

Twizbe · 07/09/2021 11:37

I wasn't sick during or after labour with either baby.

Didn't even feel sick during the second labour.

My second birth was just beautiful and so much nicer than my first. I'm sure you'll be fine, but do talk to your midwife about your fears

EishetChayil · 07/09/2021 13:41

Vomiting in labour cured me of my emetophobia, which is a huge relief.

It proved to me that the world wouldn't end if I vomited.

Miracle29 · 07/09/2021 13:56

My first labour I had pethidine and I did vomit and the midwife said that could of been the reason. With my second I didn't vomit once and never felt like I needed to either. My second Labour was really quick and I only had gas and air for pushing stage. I felt my second was easier than my first and also my first was a much nicer room than the one I was in with my second too.

Yellow85 · 07/09/2021 13:58

God I literally vomited over every member of staff 🤣 a they had to keep giving me anti sickness as they were running out of scrubs!!!

Second time around I warned them. A lot. So they gave me anti sickness at the same time I was induced and wasn’t sick once.

Ilikechips · 07/09/2021 13:59

I have had HG in both pregnancies. I wasn’t diagnosed the first time and I didn’t have any anti sickness however in labour I had diamorphine and I asked for anti sickness with that and that wasn’t a problem! This time I’ve had anti sickness meds the whole way through so I will 10000% be getting them in labour. Maybe add it to your birth plan! And make sure your birthing partner knows to advocate for this for you
