stressed about picking between a vaginal and ELCS

So I am 20 weeks and having had a consultant appt they have said they will support me having a CS if I want it. The main reasons are that i have had vulvadynia (pain in the vagina) caused by my hypermobility meaning that my pelvis was misaligned in the past which took 18 months of physio and daily meds to sort out. I previously screamed in pain during sex and whilst i am better 95% of the time now I still have a flare up now and then.

They said it could go either way - the hypermobility could make the labour easier as i am more flexible and could even improve the vulvodynia as it stretches the muscles or it could cause more complications with increased risk of tearing and cause my pelvis to misalign again and I would need physio again.

Obv C-section comes with its own risk and a much longer recovery period. I've had multiple surgeries in the past though so i know i am ok with aenethisia and recover generally in line with normal expectations.

I am going privately so will be able to have my own room and DH with me the whole time (inc overnight) in the hospital so recovery time in hospital not such an issue although obv no hospital is as nice as being home.

I know i don't have to make the decision yet but it's leaving me stressed.

I'd ask for some actual stats on the likelihood on it improving or worsening. How likely is either scenario?

@CheekyAFAIK i asked for that. there aren't any. both hypermobility and vulvadynia are so broad as diagnosis it honestly varies on one person to the other.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! My midwife for my second birth, after ending up having a c-section for my 1st, told me I could choose vbac or c-section. I asked which she would choose and she said without a doubt a c-section, lots of highly qualified people in the room, who wouldn’t choose that?! She also said she was supposed to push the vbac since it was obviously much cheaper.
This doesn’t answer your question, but personally I would take the calmness of an elective c-section over a birth which could possibly push me backwards into physio again. I wouldn’t want the risk of that along with a newborn. Xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I would personally choose an elective c section!
