Pelvic floor muscles 😮‍💨

I am 12 weeks postpartum and I’ve done something I maybe shouldn’t. I inserted my finger to my vagina to see how my pelvic floor contracts - and it almost didn’t 😔 couldn’t feel any “squeez” and honestly it makes me feel a bit faint and physically sick for some reason. I’m doing pelvic floor exercises and I though I’ve massively improved but turns out that it’s still a long way… I just hope it will go back to where it was one day 😩 is that normal ?

Not sure I can remember that far back sorry @mabel12345.

Hopefully someone with more recent experience will be along soon Thanks

I never felt with a finger but I remember it took me a while before I could stop my pee mid stream. If you're worried you could go and see a physio with experience in post-natal pelvic floor issues?

I would start following these instagram handles
@getmomstrong
@deliciouslyfitnhealthy
@hannahbower2
@ourfitfamilylife

They are all post partum fitness experts and understand the impact of breathing and core muscles in pelvic floor health. None of them suggest kegels but rather inner core strengthening exercises. With the exception of Hannah I think all had incontinence issues after having kids, and managed to heal.
Hopefully this helps, I wish this information was commonly available!

If you can afford it, I would get an appointment with a women's health physio and get a proper pelvic floor assessment (im not sure if you can get a referral on the NHS). They can get you to do exercises whilst they feel the different muscles and give you ideas of how to improve and where you are at currently. I did this following both of my births and it has been invaluable. Its not the most glamorous moment in life but I figured it was better than incontinence in later life.

Hi, I recently went to a women's health physio for this and distasi recti (ab separation). I had been trying to do pilaties/ exercise videos on you tube but no results.
The physio gave me a 'mummy MOT' and has started me off on a plan. First thing was core restore stage 1A (find it on you tube) really easy exercises that have been making a difference. She is helping build up the layers of my tummy muscles slowly and doing these core restore videos every day is making g a massive difference.
