Has anyone had a Mummy MOT? If so would you recommend?

I want to start getting back into exercising again but want to make sure all is good beforehand and someone suggested booking a Mummy MOT which I had never heard of before.

What is it??

roseswade · 18/08/2021 11:57

@Kittykat93 they have a website but essentially it’s a specialist post natal examination with a specially trained physiotherapist to check pelvic floor, any ab separation and screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction. They can then give you exercises to do to rectify any issues.

Seems to have good reviews but I’m always keen to hear directly from people!

I think it’s especially helpful if you want to jump back into exercising to make sure you know your limits etc

Yep I had it, it was great, lots of tips on posture and core exercises etc

One thing to note - they offer you an internal examination which I was prepared for (and had a c section so didn’t need) so just be aware of that if you want it also

The name makes me want to puke but this service sounds like a great idea. So many women get handed a leaflet on pelvic floor exercises and are expected to just get on with life.

My gp checked me for diastasis recti (ab separation) which is important to know about before you start any exercises and if you have any other specific concerns and a good gp I'd start there, but a specialised service is a good idea (don't know anything about this company though).

I wonder if they recommend anything like MuTu system? That's been pretty good at focusing on the issues in my experience.

Not had a mummy MOT (only pregnant with first child atm) but I know Maria Elliot does them. I saw her for physio when I suffered vulvadynia and she was fab

I'm not in the UK but this is quite a standard thing where I live and it's fab.

After all of my babies, I've been to see a Women's Health Physio and she has checked things like:

  • Pelvic floor function
  • Ab seperation
  • General alignment
  • General aches and pains and niggles

You also get a lovely firm massage and an exercise programme (nothing crazy, just stretches and strengthening exercises) tailored for you.

I wholeheartedly recommend!

(It's also reasonably common to see someone in your final trimester as well - I'm currently 38w and have been seeing someone weekly to help release my very tight pelvic floor, knead out a few aches and pains, recommend exercises to deal with back ache and pelvic pain, and apply kinesiology tape to help hold up my heavy bump!)

How many weeks PP are you? Have you had your pp check with a doctor yet? Some are crap but some can be quite in depth(e.g. checking for ab separation, etc). Maybe you could have your pp check up first and decide from there.

Thanks all! Think I will go for it :)

Not had it, but as someone who has suffered with some of the things you listed sounds amazing.
