Hi, just wondering if anyone was taking sertraline and had a csection? Was anything different because of taking this medication? Were you able to take all the normal painkillers ect afterwards? Any extra observations on you/the baby?

Thanks in advance!

From an anaesthetist’s point of view it doesn’t change anything we do! Still give the same painkillers. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I woman I was caring for was on sertraline. There was a report recently of a possible increased risk of post partum haemorrhage with some types of antidepressants but that would worry me - we are pretty great at anticipating and managing any issues.

Hope the section goes smoothly!

You should be absolutely fine for analgesia and other medications. Sertraline is pretty much the safest antidepressant there is for during pregnancy, and neither you nor baby should need any extra monitoring because of it. Good luck!

I was on Sertraline (300mg) and morphine (plus oramorph top ups), no problems with c-section at all. Had informed everyone previously and they adjusted accordingly.
