has anyone had this? is it normal? i had a 2nd degree episiotomy 5 days ago and i feel numb in that area now and while i don't have incontinence i feel like i can't fully feel what's going on and don't have much control which is horrible, makes me nervous to be around people etc. is it normal or could it be permanent nerve damage? thanks

The episiotomy I had was a long time ago but I can't remember feeling like this.

Hopefully this will bump for you Thanks

I know with C sections numbness is very common because it's a large incision, it would seem logical it can happen with an Ep too. Have you asked your midwife/HV?

I've had this both times. Keep doing your pelvic floor exercises, it really helps.

@shouldistop thanks so it got better for you? i'm trying to do the pelvic floor exercises but i can only feel to do them when i'm lying down! when i'm standing up i can't feel anything

I’ve had both a cs and an episiotomy and both went numb. There’s the initial healing and numbness that takes the first few weeks and then there’s the longer healing which took about 6 months for both. I had numbness along the cut of both once they’d healed of both for months.
After my cs I did wet myself quite a few times but it sorted itself out by 6 weeks. Strangely didn’t have the same problem after the VBAC but I was expecting to.

The numbness got better. I've never gone back to how I was before though.
